Recruiting said they were parking at least 2,000 trucks.

I don't doubt that as fact.

I'm seeing many companies reducing their fleet. At least temporarily. I don't think that has anything to do with fuel cost, although for some it is.

A quick check of this forum will give you clues as to who is doing what. Drivers sitting for extended periods. Some not getting paid...etc..etc

They can't be scaling back to much. They just offered my crackhead brother in law a job. He started orientation today.

It is rather odd they'd be laying off drivers, yet they're still recruiting them. Those given pink slips have no doubt become too expensive and will be shown the door. The new drivers taking their place will no doubt be cheaper green drivers and some fleece drivers sprinkled in.

I can tell you right now SwiftQuit won't be shutting down. That's like saying the sun is gonna stop shining or the world is gonna stop spinning.

Hmmmm, wonder how this play's out after the government got onto Jerry Moyes (Swift owner for those who don't know) for trying to monopolize the trucking industry by buying up everything he was able to get his hand's on. Dick Simon bought into Western Express(?) (or something of the nature) the Simon went under and sold out to Swift, along with Pride and a bunch of other compaines.
On another note, I've noticed 3 time's the normal number of Swift trailers riding the rails along with JB, SNI, USX. That 2,000 trucks being shut down are probably the drivers they issued false CDL's to whom aren't legal to drive. Chux, wonder how they would know which driver's had fake CDL's. Hmmmmmm!

If you had any idea how expensive it is for Swift and every other Trucking company in America to recruit, train and put a driver in the seat , then you would further know how stupid a statement that is. The costs are enourmous, not just for the company here you are so infatuated with but for all companies. The more a driver makes does not make them more "expensive" to the company, it makes them so much more valuable, this is why some OTR companies will pay in excess of .40 a mile for experience,..its valuable,..not expensive for companies to have a fleet full of experienced hands riding around,..not the other way around,..maybe a simple lesson in Trucking Economics 101 is in order for you. Take a few days timeout from your Swift bashing and study a little bit and then you can come back and say something that resembles some sense.

    IH Scout,

I'm more than willing to listen since you have all the facts regarding trucking company expenses and revenue. Please show me how the experienced 40 cpm driver makes a company more money than the 26 cpm (and absolutely ZERO benefits) I was paid by Midwest Coast out of Sioux Falls, SD after they spent three weeks (unpaid) training me and 10 weeks team driving at 11 cpm.

Please don't give me conjecture or opinion. I want real world facts and the supporting documents from the company they came from.

Before I go into smart### mode. Let me state, this industry is a mess. It's a mess because the people who have the most to gain, are the ones making and breaking the rules as needed, at will.

Maybe you should find out just how heavily "student driver" training is subsidized by your own tax dollars.

And guess who gets that money. And who gets to write the expenses off on their taxes.

Our industry has become heavily subsidized through many Federal programs. And the companies freely admit this.

Some of the things you may have missed over that past 2-5 years......

This is what the ATA has to say about increased entry level requirements.

This is an industry that thinks 2 students can help each other finish the training they were never given to begin with?!?!?!

They also said this, apply it how you want: Think MEXICO if you can. Think slow freight, high fuel cost.

This is what they had to say about H.R. 1824. Which provided needed assistance to Military personnel, for jobs training. The bill would have provided fast track funding for needed technological skills within the U.S. requiring more than one year of school.

What does our military members think of the ATA now? Since the industry as whole lobbied to trap them into become truck drivers, due to "funding" restrictions...Lobbied for by the ATA

Some may argue they done a good thing. I beg to differ.

Additionally, the ATA lobbied for Larger rest areas for tired drivers. They failed to lobby about the "consequences" that came along with those rest areas.

    The "consequences"

Federal Ruling that stated the states would be allowed to set up "no idle" rest areas. And provide state owned services like "Idle-Aire" within these rest areas.

Since this ruling came down, many states have elected to discuss turning rest area upkeep over to private enterprize....can you say "Idle-Aire"? Can you say No Parking unless you are hooked up?
