Well darn it this morning did not go well... for starters I was in a different truck than my own.. and the utility light was useless.. I find my fully loaded trailer and it was tricky to get under because the angle it was and the trailer to the right.. so I have to go in at a funky angle.. so I do.. of course this is at 2am and it is very dark.. I did check that I was lined up with the king pin.. but I must of been off cause the king pin went over the 5th wheel.. of course there is no one there yet so all I can do is start cranking the landing gear up...
Well.. it was no easy task and this was a heavy fully loaded flatbed... so, as I am cranking.. I feel a sharp pain in my right shojlder blade.. so I take a break... I am just over half way there.. so I begin to crank the landing gear again.. but, it does not feel good...
Anyway.. i took anotner break.. then finished it.. by now my shoulder is really hurting... and I realize.. I still have to tighten my straps, make sure my tarp is tight and secure.. and of course I will have to un tarp and strap when I get there..
I realized it just wasnt going happen.. I was in pain.. so I called dispatch and told them, then put me through to safety.. I came home and have been pjtting ice on it... but I am still really stiff and in discomfort... athis rate I wont make it in to work tonight...
I am also wondering if I should go to the Dr. And get it looked at...
ouch...

I think you'd be crazy not to have it seen by a doc...
Richter, Tonythetruckerdude, OldHasBeen and 1 other person Thank this. -
Short ANSWER IS YES.....Go get it looked at , but 1st make your employer aware of you going to the Dr. If it shows -up as an injury to your shoulder , call a lawyer...immediately and inform them of what happened. They will then advise you as to which way to go.....Good Luck. Do not ..I repeat DO NOT...... let the folks in safety tell you that you cant go to the Dr.....or that its a bad idea....even if they send you top a company Dr.....go , get X-rays...document everything , time , date etc.....If you're hurt ...really hurt....don't let them talk , intimidate you into working tonite.....if you do..it's all on you then....

Your saving grace is that call to dispatch and safety.
I've been out since the 11th, hurt my back releasing 5th wheel(go for MRI tomorrow after almost a month, WC ins co screwed up, they're gonna pay $$$$$$$$)...Go to Dr NOW, get it documented just in case...Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
Ah man sorry to hear that, I did that once when I just started out and it was no fun trying to crank a 42k trailer up 4 inches.. I was a lot more cautious after that. However I didn't pull my shoulder out, if I were you personally I wouldn't go to the doc unless it's still real messed up feeling, that's just me though. You could have pulled a muscle and just tell your dispatcher that you may need a few days and just take it easy. Good luck

Don't go to the doctor, have your company open a workers compensation claim and be able to go get checked out thru their doctor, if you go to your doctor he won't deal with it if you tell him you got hurt at work. Also on a side note when hooking up never back it in all the way always put that small piece of the fifth wheel(that indented small part) just under the trailer, and lower the trailer so the weight of the trailer is being supported by the fifth wheel/tractor and so when you back up that fifth wheel it lifts the trailer and the legs 4+ Inches off the ground, and give it a good tug. Always check 3 things after you hooked, no space between fifth wheel and trailer, your fifth wheel handle is in, and your jaws are closed around the king pin, and you will never drop a trailer/high hook. Get a good flash light also if you can't see, I recommend http://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Pro..._sim_sg_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1GPBFGCKAF8E6MJJMTK8, some guys will make fun of you but its worth it. Hope you get better.

Another thing you can do in that situation, is dump the air out of your air ride (provided you have air ride, which I think every truck has now), should be a switch on the dash. If not, always get out and check like morlandoemtp sez.
okiedokie Thanks this. -
safety should of sent you to the clinic rite away. if you happen to do get the pin over the plate again, lower your airbags and put a 2x4 under the plate so it tilts the back part up. then drive forward. make sure pin is hitting the top part of plate. if not, you mite have to raise the trailer abit.
okiedokie and briarhopper Thank this. -
Ditto.. What Dptucker said. . Air bag dump and a block of wood. . Then re inflate the bags. Get the weight off the landing gear. . Then crank them down. . Dump the air bags. . Drive out.
Once your in front of the king pin. . Dump your bags. . Double your wood blocks up. .re inflate and crank your landing gear up to the correct height. .dump bags. . Remove blocks. .recouple..
Easier than cranking.okiedokie and Dark_Majesty_06 Thank this. -
