Why this lifestyle?

If you are making about the median income then it is by definition mediocre pay. What drugs are you on?

 

I could've been a brain surgeon but I hate hospitals, could've been a rocket scientist but don't wanna work for the government; I like trucks so trucking it is!

 

as intellectual as u come off in your other posts this is kind of confusing.

 

I drove OTR for 13 years and quit and worked construction and was a coal miner for 17 years. The hardest part with the change was having to ask the boss if I could do something. I was used to doing things my way when it needed done.Got in trouble a few times when I was asked"who told you to do that?" Back to trucking now and enjoy it.Even with Qualcom it's not like having a boss breathing down your neck every second.

 

It's part that sense of adventure; there are few things to get the blood pumping like coming down Cabbage or Donner in a winter storm. It's that not being 100% sure where you will lay your head tonight. It's the challenge of getting a motor running enough to get to shop using only duct tape and zip ties. To non-drivers, those things are terrifying, but for many of us; it's every day. Honestly, there's nothing I'd rather do, and I hope to keep doing it as long as my body, the government, and my wife let me.

 

I thought it was great story about management and drivers. The OP is just to high on life to see it, and with the cool story comment, probably not bright enough either.

 

Been driving for well over 20+ years. Last year I logged a big 8 months of OTR ( something I said I'd NEVER do ).
I've taken some time off to visit grandkids & basically screw around.....& I find myself really, really missing the road & life every time I stop in for coffee 'n such @ the local Pilot/Flying hook....which is almost every day. Funny things we humans! I'll be going back soon...bored as hell...need to see some country.

Now...if we could only find some good "Load planner & Driver manager" ( he pukes) 'trainers', all will be good & I can die a happy man.

 

I get bored too easily with any one place and after about six months I'm ready to pack up and start all over again somewhere else, which is not a terribly productive habit. That's why I gave up the LTL rat race and went back to sleeper cab. Being home every night didn't excite the hell out of me and I like to go out ramblin' for a 70. Plus I think truck stops are kind of fun for whatever reason...checking out everybody else's rides, watching some poor schmuck try to wedge his truck into some hole he probably shouldn't be aiming for, listening to the ridiculous stories at the dinner counter, all that jazz.
