So far I've applied to more than 10 companies. The last one being Western Express ( which emailed me today ). All of them have told me that they can't hire me because my felony is not 10 yrs old. I finished my felony in 2008 so is only been 6 yrs. I had gone to court to see if I could get it removed from my record, but the judge told me I had to wait 20 yrs!! before that could happen. Now for my question: is there any company that would consider felonies 5 yrs or less? or should I just consider another industry all together and forget about the trucking industry?
Which company...

We generally joke that Western Express is the company that hires felons. You could Carolina cargo or CRST, but if you have to go with them, then you should look into another industry.
yankeefan Thanks this. -
Are they that bad?

Yes, they are that bad. What's your felony? And why didn't you call BEFORE spending month on CDL school?yankeefan Thanks this.

My drug felony is a Class B felony non violent. I got arrested in 2000 did 4 yrs. Came home in 2004 with 4 yrs probation, which I finished in 2008. As for my CDL I've had it for a little over 8 yrs (which the probation officer suggested I get it and they paid for it). As soon as l received it the school got me a local job, but driving 38' straight truck. The company did not let me drive their tractors because at the time they had their tractor drivers. Since I was making a decent amount of money driving the straight trucks, I never made an issue about driving the tractors.

Try c,r England or swift if you haven't you'll at least get some experience by the time 10yrs is up and you'll be able to get on with a better company. Check craigslist and local paper a small company or owner op might hire you

Driving for one of these crap companies might help you get a better job a few years down the road, but it might now. Drug felony... You might not get any job with anyone except an owner op, companies are just going to assume drug addict. Not making accusations, just saying that's how it is. Anyone that would hire you, it wouldn't be much better than minimum wage, with the expenses and hardship of being an OTR driver most likely.

Thanks but I did try both of them and they told me the same, no because my felony is not 10 yrs old. There is got to be a company that doesn't look that far back.
-
Thanks, I know beggars can't be choosers and right now I'm willing to work for anyone that would give me an opportunity. I understand what your saying about companies assuming drug addict when they see a drug charge, but they could do all the test they want on me going back to the time I was born and I'm confidant that they won't find anything because I've never done drugs. A beer while watching a baseball game; yes but not drugs. Now minimum wage for driving a CMV, now that is hard to believe.Chinatown Thanks this.
