Does anyone know much about the distribution side of Schnucks supermarkets out of St Louis? Can't find much on them about employee reviews from a drivers perspective.

Guy I worked with was a seasonal driver with them for awhile, made it sound like it was to get on full time. Paid good. Sorry that's all I got!

I've heard good things about the pay and pension but that was from a new hires perspective. Just looking for some info with some seasoning on it. I'm sure someone new will still think its "fun" until a reality sets in. It wouldn't be worth gold bricks if their culture or managements demeanor was too far south.

Father in Law drives for them. They are Union of course, good pay, benefits and pension. You start off as a casual and it could take anywhere from 6 months to a few years to actually get put on the board full time so that is always a negative. I hope you like weird schedules because you have to bid for your job/run and they can vary quite a bit, especially since it goes according to seniority.
I wouldn't expect a bid where you get weekends off , also wouldn't expect day shift. Your looking at years before you get the good hours/days. Even if you get lucky and get a bid you love, you can always get bumped by a more senior driver who wants your bid. You may just do deliveries to local stores or you may do single turns to places like Evansville, you may get stuck running the yard dog as well. My Father in Law was working 4pm-4am Thurs-Sun with every other Sun. off.
It's a good gig but, hard to get hired without knowing someone it seems and the schedules are goofy. Let me know if you have any specific questions.secretariat Thanks this. -
Seems to be like most local jobs, you have to put some time in before you can get a schedule that you can be happy with. I was wondering about the relationship between management and the union. If there's a disconnect between them sure makes working so much harder. Some places the union runs the show and that makes it hard to do anything. Other places management expects drivers to do all kinds of crazy things and the shop steward won't even talk to you. I'm not trying to turn this into a union discussion but wondering what kind of work environment they have. I assume who ever your driving for is better than this place or you would be here right? Myself this terminal is much closer than where I'm at now and pretty much has all the same weird schedules your were talking about. I have some new connections that work here and know of some disconnected ex-employees who won't talk about it, so my info is a little shaky. Thanks for taking the time to help.

I've never heard of any issues between management and the Union. That would make it difficult for Schnucks as the entire company is Union from the bag boys on up. I can't do the whole casual thing so that's why I don't work there, I need steady work right off the bat.
