Cygnus? I think that's his name on here... I could be way off. Anyhow, we were in orientation together is sunnyvale. He lives in florida. I haven't seen him on here in a while, but i talk to him often and he says he gets home every 3-4 weeks, doesn't like staying out longer than that. We also have the same DM.

If you want, I can send in a message to a recruiter to have them call you. If you want me to, PM me your name and phone number.

Thanks mrh2008. Not thrilled with the 3-4 week out but I haven't committed to anyone either. Just testing the waters so to speak and they are the only ones at this point who are talking to me and paying something. Everything else I've checked into only paying .26 -.30 cpm to start for a grad. I did forget to ask what kind of miles y'all are averaging? I would be interested in talking to a current driver of anyone can tell me how to pm. It will be about noon or a little after before I can get a lot of free time. I'll try the other melton threads when I get a chance

hey rob, pretty much why i choose melton, more pay. i do have family at home but had to make the sacrifice. i stay out about 6-8 weeks, by choice. east is supposed to be able to get home more frequently, im from california so they said 3 weeks out before requesting to be home, and takes 2 weeks to get me home. east was told in orientation 2 weeks out before requesting and 1 week to get you home after that.

started at .33 cpm and now ill be at .37 in the short time since i started (march, got my own truck april).

the past 3 weeks were 2700 miles, 2900, and this paycheck for last week will be close to 3100. this week is already looking like a 3k week also with the load i just got today. usually average 2500 a week, and dont forget tarp pays and other pays that you would get.
when i go home i try to request home thursdays, and stay home til monday, go back out tuesday. melton pay period stops on mondays, so i do it that way so i get a check goin home and when i come back out i still have quite a few days til the next check for miles.

when i go home i usually only work mon-wednesday, so its a short week but ive been getting 1500-1800 those weeks.

well guys looks like im headed to CA from kentucky, 2400 miles by monday. really light load, just some reels. about 14k altogether. on track for 3k this week. wonder where my dm is, still hasnt showed up this week.

    Robm Thanks this.

Same here about why I chose melton. It's all about the money. I have a wife and 2 kids at home, 3rd will be born in december.

I'm not out here for the fun of it. I'm on a mission. My mission is to support my family, and Melton let's me do that. I'm still young and I'm pretty sure that no one would give me 55k for a 9-5 job back home.

Mrh and bnrobot, thanks for the info and your time. Talked with Jen yesterday afternoon and she put me in touch with a driver named Marty that happened to be in the office. He said he tried to give it to me straight as he could with no candy coating, which is all I can ask for, about his time and experience at melton and life on the road.
Very enlightening. Thanked him on the phone and giving him another thanks here for his time and input. Both he and Jen backed up most everything I've read on this thread. Suppose to talk with Jen again this afternoon. Got a little bit to think about. My biggest thing, I think, is the time away. But as we all have said at one point or another, you gotta do whatever it takes for the family. Be safe out there everyone .

That load out of WI was a bit of a head scratcher. They are disassembling a paper plant to be rebuilt in Mexico. First part was pretty straight forward; 2 9K rollers on the back. The rest of the stuff was cobbled together to fit. Had a bunch of steel pieces in a "cage" with some lighter stuff on top that was crushable and then some substantial steel structure with a gear box loaded up front. Ended up threading chains to secure the steel pieces with straps over the top for the light stuff. Was interesting to tarp with all of the pieces sticking out at funny angles and places; lots of padding and tarp pieces. Overall pretty light load; 66K gross.

Running recap, so shut down at the Loves off I-35 in Eagleville, MO. Have 10/11hrs coming back each day so I will be on the night watch for a couple of days until Laredo.

I'm gonna be sitting after this load. It's 3 hours away but in new York so let's go with four hours and I'll have 7.5 tomorrow so by time unloading I'll have enough time to find a spot and sit since I only get 2 hours back Saturday.
