I really messed up today.

I think I know who!!! Sure wish they finished training too.

 

Sorry for your misfortune OP....reminds me of a similar accident I had years ago when I started out. I was docking at night....my left side door cleat was missing so I secured the door to the trailer side with a piece of twine I found lying on the dock. As I was backing to the dock there was a dock light blinding me on the drivers side. In the time it took to look in the right side mirror the twine snapped and the door swung around and into the dock. It damaged the door so that I couldn't latch it. I think I tied it off somehow and had to take the trailer to a local shop and have it repaired. I instructed the shop to replace the cleat and they tell me they don't have any hardware so off I go. Next stop was the John Deere plant in Ft. Dodge. Had to back indoors with a brick wall running the length of the driver side. I secured the door open with some shrink wrap that I found....got loaded, began pulling out and dang if the shrink wrap didn't let go.....the door swung around and wedged itself into the wall opening a nice hole before I could stop! Total dumb*** I was! From then on I always carry a roll of stainless steel wire that you find at Lowe's.....along with the trusty duct tape!

 

You should have GOALed. Checked your doors and whatnot. And I should keep my mouth shut. Karma and whatnot.

 

Taught that door a lesson too.

 

Do you think being told** it's a "hot" load and you must hurry up,and could that have contributed to getting sloppy..I dont mean sloppy in a mean way,but that is considered a perventable incident..

 

I've always had a deep fear of that right door coming unhitched while backing. It can happen to anyone and there's not much you can do when it happens. I mean, you can't see it, so how could you know until it's too late. At least there wasn't another truck on that side that got damaged too. It could have been worse.

 

I tore my air line out the other day. I was sure I took them out. Something told me to doublecheck, but I was all like, no, I remember doing it already.

It always happens when you skip that once. Granted that's not as bad as the damaged door, but far more embarrassing. The door was a mechanicsl failure leading to driver error. Mine was just pure driver error.
