Anyone have experience with Vitek Transport out of Sacramento?

New CDL-A holder here getting into my first trucking job. I'm somewhat limited in where I can start, since I unfortunately don't have a clean background, and Vitek has welcomed me aboard. I get the impression that they're, should I say, not the greatest trucking outfit out there (and they pay on a 1099, which is in itself questionable, since we're using their equipment and are NOT o/o), but I have to start somewhere, right?

But I've been sitting around twiddling my thumbs for the last 5 days. They said it's a slow week and I'll be going with one of their older and more experienced drivers for training as soon as there's a run available. Anyone heard of this company? Are they ok, or should I steer far away from them?

Is it newer stuff or older? There are lots of shady companies in Sacramento and Elk Grove area

Paying an employee on 1099 is not just questionable, it is illegal. An employer is required by law to match your contribution to social security and Medicare.

When I went around the block for their "test drive," the rig was a million-miler. As for the other 20+ rigs in the yard, it was hard to say, but they didn't look super old.

Wondering if I should just keep looking. I know I'll be starting at a bottom-of-the-barrel-ish type of company given my background (hopefully not scraping the bottom), but one that at least pays on a w2 and doesn't make me sit around for a week+ waiting for my first run would be nice. Any suggestions for halfway-decent starter companies in the Sac. area are welcome.

I would keep looking... I would say even going to CRST or someplace like that would be a better option than this. At least a place that pays legitimately and has decent equipment.

20 trucks sitting in the yard ? That's a lot, even for a big company. I've never heard of them.
