Okay i am Marc i am 24 . i went to truck driving school last year. when i finished truck driving school i didn't go otr. i just drove city bus with my A license . i'm still working as a city bus driver been doing it for a year so far. i forgot what i learned in truck driving school, like backing the trailer and shifting but i would like to go otr now to get experience, and eventually drive tractor trailers local. is it possible if a trucking company can hire me to go otr with a trainer to learn shifting and backing again? or will they say go back to school for a refresher course? i don't really have the $$ for it... do you think cr england will take me or some of the other companies.. i have my certificate and everything that i went to school for my cdl....
1 more question. can driving a city bus count as experience in the trucking industry for some jobs cause it is a class b vehicle?? or am i wrong...
so any suggestions .... feel free...
is there any companies that will hire me

Marc, you pretty much answered your own question. There are quite a few companies that will hire you but require you to go out with a trainer. I'd recommend doing some research on this site under both good and bad companies to work for. Then develop a comprehensive list of questions to ask recruiters. Then, place your complete d application on some of the trucking eebsites. The recruiters troll those sites, and you can expect a lot of phone calls from them. Keep an open mind, but be wary of the companies on the bad company list. Hope this helps.

You could get hired somewhere but why??? I'm pretty sure that city bus gig will make you more money than a beginner trucking job! Not sure about Phoenix but Tucson bus drivers are Local 104 Teamsters and do a lot better than any CR Englund driver. And yes, your experience as a bus driver would count as "commercial driving experience" which is something but not too much more than that.

considering he's driving a shorter vehicle with automatic. wonder what and how it would apply for experience in a commercial vehicle.

Talk to Swift and Knight about refresher course. You're in Phoenix; they're in Phoenix. Looks like a good match. Get that behind you and shouldn't have any problem landing a local tractor-trailer job. Lots of those in Phoenix. There's intermodal and also 3 milk tanker companies. I don't think you need any cash for either company refresher course.

Im positive somebody will hire u. I went 2 school and complted in late dec when I did complete there was a hiring freeze for graduates caz of new president, etc I went back to a warehouse till 2011 I didn't drive no stick since school. I did have to go thru training like u will have to and far as for shifting its like riding a bike u never forget not saying u not gone grind gears from time to time. As far as fir backing take it slow it will come get out and look a million times if u have to. I still have problems with slanted parking spots at truck stops. But if u choose to go over road pick carefully the company u train with ask how long their program is. And im sorry to say but your years driving a bus will not count for experience for combination vehicle job u may score points if u go local
