This thread is old, but maybe you'll see this. R E West is now hiring students/trainees without a CDL as long as you're a Tennessee resident. I've done as much research as I can on this company, and I haven't found anything bad yet (except old posts about low pay, but they seem to have improved). There isn't really anything much about them at all, which is a good sign, really.

how much overhang on aflatbed is considered oversized?

Just guess how I know that -
Sure you can. I have hauled loads that were 10 ft 6 in on a flat or 70 ft on a 53 ft flat. Permits routing and the rest of it.

I was just trying to clarify the 4" and 4' that you mentioned (which is true) only go up to the maximum permitted (overall length changes by state but i believe the 8'6" width is pretty common among states). Since i got burned on that, didn't want anyone else to.okiedokie Thanks this. -
Right you are LC. I got clipped @ a scale in Washington years ago for having overhand on the front trailer of a maxi. Load was hidden inside the air foils on a sleeper but the old timer caught it. But it's inside the truck wheelbase. Overhang only between the 2 trailers not on either end. My bad.
