Got it, I read the spreadsheet more carefully. Makes sense now.

I just hit my six month mark with Swift in the flatbed division. It has been great so far. No issues that are not present in any trucking job and the new payscale is really good. Plenty of miles and plenty of loads. I run the dedicated chassis run out of SC and enjoy it. You will make more money going OTR though. I picked the dedicated to get home more since I live so close to the terminal and Freightliner. Good luck.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

I guess I should add a bit of my experience training with Swift. As Lepton mentioned, go with a flatbed mentor if at all possible. I went with a van mentor due to circumstances beyond my control but my learning curve solo has been STEEP. If you want flatbed do it from the start. As you have to wait 6 months (i think Lepton may have mentioned this too) before switching. You really do not learn anything in the tiedown classes. With load securement you learn by observing others and getting your hands dirty. Ask questions. Never drive with a load you are unsure of.

oops, didnt mean to leave you out Plant. You gave all the info I just did, my appologies.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

A few questions for you Swift Flatbeders, I see that new drivers got a bump to .30cpm.

1: Around how many miles does a new FB going solo avg. a week?
2: Do you know if they hire FB out of Albuquerque?
3: What is the hometime for FB out of the Southwest?

I plan on contacting a recruiter, but wanted to ask the actual doers, thank you.

I cannot help with question 1 as I am on a dedicated route but as for hiring you out of Albuquerque, that will not be a problem. Phoenix is a flatbed terminal and we hire from pretty much where ever for flatbed. Hometime policies are the same company wide. One day off for every week out. You decide when you want to go home. But you need to stay out 4-6 weeks at a time to make money.

    bab1369, thank you.

Does Swift FB drivers have to pay for any of their equipment out of pocket, such as locks, chains or straps or anything like that? What type of equipment does the FB side run? Also one last question,(maybe) anyone know around how much insurance is for family at swift.

How many miles you average is up to you. By that I mean there is plenty of freight, your miles depend on how efficient you are. You won't ever sit waiting for a load.

We hire OTR out of Albuquerque and also have a dedicated fleet hauling rebar out of there where you will be home on weekends.

Hometime for OTR is the typical 6/1 and I've never had a problem getting home when I needed to.

Company drivers don't buy their equipment, this ain't Prime.

Dont bother asking a recruiter flatbed specific questions, they won't know anything. Better to ask here or call the flatbed division directly at 800 800 FLAT.
