Just wanted to say howdy to the people of truckers report. I got my class a cdl recently and have lurked on this site for awhile now. I have learned a lot from this site and really enjoy everyone's advice and stories. For all the other guys looking for a local job straight out of school, don't give up. I just got hired on hauling diesel for on site fueling. No otr experience, not a perfect background, but very determined and willing to work hard. Thanks to all the posters here, your advice does not go unheard.

I would say the biggest thing is just being confident when you go in for an interview. I have driven large straight box trucks for a couple years in the city so that May have helped a little. The guy I interviewed and test drove with made it sound like the average guy who applies is pretty much worthless. Either they just want there unemployment paperwork signed or can't do basic math. When I test drove I was just super careful and drove pretty slow, it seems like common sense but some people seem to lack that. I stressed that even though I lacked experience I was eager to learn and willing to work hard. When they asked if I had hazmat and twic(I didn't) I simply said I will have that done tommorow. I stayed up studying and aced my hazmat and got my background checks started the next morning. Some companies are more interested in your gumption and all you need to do is show a little. I start training at 4am tomorrow morning, I am really looking forward to a job I can be proud of. Having worked crappy dead end jobs for a while makes me thankful for the opportunity. Thanks to all the people on here that convinced me that signing my life over to a mega meat grinder was not the only answer.
