You can do much, much better than any of the mega carriers. Don't drink the kool-aid.

Are you more about good training and pet policy then the pay?Why do you think both Knight and Werner offer good training?Keep in mind it's the trainer that makes good training. As an OTR driver with Werner, you will be doing a lot of the Northeast,Baltimore,Long Island,Philly all the fun cities.Even more once training is done.My 3 yrs with Werner I seen more of the east coast then anywhere else. Many times my checks were lower then what trainees make. But everybody has to start somewhere and chances are another company you're thinken about may not be any better.

The pay is important but for the first year or so I realize that I am probably not going to make very much money, so I am looking at the intangibles of different companies to help make the decision. Like many newbies I am in need of experience and training in spite of school so the big companies that have a bit more training are appealing for that reason.

In a perfect world I would find a small to mid sized company that had a great training program that would hire me to run 48 states and take my dog along. If I don't take her along I will have to get rid of her as I live alone and my family are not able to take her in.

Thanks for the info about running NE with Werner, I will add that information to my decision matrix for what company I finally decide on.

Have you thought about watkins shepard? or just call some smaller companies. Hell head to a truckstop get all the phone numbers for trucks with APUs (means they have a little love for drivers so you dont sweat to death) and call around. I have talked to new drivers getting .40 to .50 a mile but they had to put the phone to the ear.

Werner was my first company and like you I was more in it for the experience they the pay because I already knew what I was in for before starting Werner.
