got new shocks and

I will never buy another Gabriel shock. How much technology can be put in that shock for $48 so you can expect it to work great. Monroes are way better, but I considering RoadKing shocks.

 

Somewhere recently I saw a thread on Road King shocks. Not a lot of good to say about them and poor customer service. I put Monroe gas shocks on the Flex-aire suspension on my truck. They had a stout nylon "tie" looped through each eye to keep them compressed in the box. I bolted the bottom on, cut the tie and had to hold them partly collapsed to put in the top bolt. The down pressure on the tires with these Monroes is way greater than the oem shocks. Longevity I can't say as they are a fairly recent purchase.

 

I've bought four shocks, all came compressed without a tie band. They're not like pickup truck socks that actually help hold weight, they just dampen axle movement

 

If they're adjustable, they'll have a black band around them with triangles that have letters or #'s in them. It's been a while since I've used Gabriel shocks, but I think it says on the side of the shock what # or letter means, firm, extra firm, ext. To adjust them, you have to collapse it all the way and turn it, you'll feel it lock in. Then turn it until the setting you want is lined up.

 

Yeah, GrapeApe is pretty much right. I think it was R F EF, regular firm and extra firm, the instructions are right on the side. You collapse them all the way, turn until it clicks and is pointing to your desired setting, then pull out at least an inch to lock in. I set my steers to the softest setting, so far they're pretty good. Time will tell.

BTW, Monroe's are about the same price, the RK's are a lot more. I can't see them being worth 6x as much though.
