Just retired from a desk job and looking to drive big rigs. Got my VA CDL instruction permit and looking at CDL schools in VA. Boy, is that an eye opener. Any suggestion on CDL schools located in Northern VA would be most welcomed. The other question is that I am 68 (in very good health) and would that age be a show stopper in getting a job?

Your age should not be a factor as long as you remain in passable health and are able to pass your physicals.

I had a guy who was 71 in my CDL class.
Long as you can see and drive safely and can pass the physical, no issues at all.

I know some small company's prefer hiring more mature people for driving positions , turns out they drive more safely and take better care of equipment , If your health is good I say go for it , just do the research on the driving schools , check for reviews andsuch , also you may want to ask perspective employers if they are accepted schools before you spend the money for the school , I would not take a company Paid training course , bad bad bad , hope this helps

Dude at moose lodge in my town drove trucks until he was in his early 80's, toughest, orneriest, man you'll ever meet. Still rides his hog every day, hits on every woman in sight, and pwns everyone in darts. He just turned 88 and you'd think he was a 40 year old with the way he acts. Age is just a number if you stay in shape physically and mentally.

Didnt have a problem with my age, just didnt have any otr exp. The jobs I applied to in Texas said insurance insisted at least 1 yr, exp preferably otr. Started with a big co just to get experience.
and yeah, I'm older than you. Just stay healthy.
