I am red/green color blind but am looking to get my CDL A here in Texas. Was wondering if this was going to be an issue with my physical for the license and if it would be an issue getting on with Con-way Truckload
I read a post "questions about dot physical" the guy asked the same question I am but that was in 2011 and the answers were back and forth.
Thanks

There is no problem being color blind. No need to mention it to anyone either. The only people I know that can't be color blind are pilots of airplanes.

http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/391.41
(10) Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70° in the horizontal Meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber.
The medical examiner performing your physical will show you images compromised of hundreds of colored dots that contain a number only a person who is not color blind can see. -
Well, I stand corrected!!! They don't test for it though.

The Redbird dmv in ft worth tests for color blindness aswell as the dmv (don't remember what one) I went to in St louis tests as well.
But you have your answer already op.
If you do make it through, I hope you don't go to anywhere that has the traffic signals mounted horizontally. -
Any medical professional, who as of May 21, 2014 must be listed in the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners in order to conduct a DOT physical, is required to check for color blindness.
ncmickey Thanks this. -

Thanks TomOfTx
Bandaid thanks for the answer and color blindness doesn't work like that. I can easily tell green from red or yellow on a traffic signal so no matter the orientation it isn't a problem (I know it doesn't make sense but trust me I can tell) plus the lights are always in the same position across the country. -
I'm surprised why they would care. All lights are setup the same. So what happens if you fail the test? You can't drive?
