Somethings are better not said in open forums. Sometimes discretion is required.

According to what I read about SNI, their is no requirement on trucks accept pass a DOT.

I figure that helps me by keeping my costs down on a used truck.

Or is it worth going new with the $1.63 average?
    Thanks

They have changed the rules. .. 10 yr old max. There are height, weight, and length requirements that must be met as well.

That's why I am undecided of what to do when my lease is up next spring. I would prefer to buy a pre-egr truck. Yes I know about California not letting me in (I don't care). Still hard pressed to beat a 3406E, Cummins N14+, or Detroit S60 12.7.

I would rather go back to heavy haul and get what I want vs. Having to buy a Ca. Legal engine

I would like to go with a pre egr truck myself, but as long as it is at least pre dpf, that would be ok.

If I had to get something between the 2003 to whateveryearDPFsstartedshowingup I would probably go with a Cat. With some tuning they can become very stout motors and still get good MPG. Stock form though the MPG can be terrible. Early ISX had too many issues. Can't comment on Detroits as usual, I know so little about them.
