I was told by Synergy (Indiana located) that they have 3 drivers that live in Washington (my state) that pick up in Indiana and run to Washington. I guess it doesn't matter which way you run as long as you get paid for one direction, eh? If you want to run legal (cough) it's my understanding that you are under their lease and most companies have a clause that you can't run otherwise without violating the lease.

I agree with what you said about having your own business. I had my own art business for 28 years before I entered trucking and my income was directly proportional to my efforts and creative ability to economize and find opportunity. Seems to me that if you kick in that right brain you can be successful at almost anything in this country....even trucking! ;-) All the answers to running a successful towing biz are right here on this forum---mostly in the form of "what not to do"....LoL.

Keep us posted on what you find and I'll do the same, OK?

Will do! With 5 companies on the table, I'll do a little more forum searching and review facebook before deciding.

Me? I'm still looking for that well-kept Dodge 350 with the 5.9 and crew cab, low mileage manual shift, 4wd, less than 5 years old for under 20k. I think it exists only in my mind.....LoL.

However, as I said earlier in the thread--my company has 2 single axle class 8 Volvos that have from 500k to 700k miles and were well-maintained for $5k each. I may snag one of those and haul class A stuff. You buy one and I'll buy the other and we'll have a company. ;-)

I'm a bit confused on the type of hauling here especially concerning getting "backhauls". Are you hauling (towing) with a hitch or loading on a lowboy and hauling? How hard is it getting backhauls with just a power unit and no trailer. Seems limiting. Thanks for your replies.

Most of this is part is talking about towing 5th wheels and travel trailers. The backhaul would have to be something that you can connect to your hitch or 5th wheel. So, yes it is v e r y limited. In 6 months of doing this I had one trailer that was returned to the factory and one trailer that was picked up at the end of a show and taken to a dealer.

Your lucky. I had only one in 2 years, It was a dealer that went out of business as I was 40 miles away. They, (keystone) called my dispatcher and said to bring it back - at the same millage rate as the going out was. Most I ever made hauling RV's.

Roadmefic, I too was was leased to Landstar for 10 years.... you seem to have done well at this just using your truck alone.... why is it you've never used a trailer to haul two rvs at a time.....it seems like you could at least have a chance to back haul common LTL freight like I did at Landstar....also...what rear differential gear ratio are you running .......Thanks
