The King never went to Dunedin either. He never picked up anything from California .....they would deadhead him all the way to Friona!

I know Pete. I've been out of the state too long. Lol

I wish I could deadhead all the way to Friona from CA. I've been lucky enough to avoid having to pick up produce in CA. Last time was the best load ever... 5500lbs of Pillows to Loveland, though I stopped in Cheyenne at KW.

Same with George. He had to set the temp at -5. When he got to the shipper and opened the back doors to back in, he said the temp jumped to 50 degrees! Shipper had him turn temp setting to -10.

Pete, the Walmart produce center is in Colton, south on riverside ave from the 10 freeway. It's about 2 miles south. Turn left on Aqua Mansa then the first right. The place is brand new, that's where I did my drop and hook last night.

Unfortunatlly, I need to add one more item to this list Roadside Memorials:

To me, this is somewhat of a newish phenomenon. Years ago, when I was in college a friend of a friend (I did not know her) was killed in a road accident. I brought my friend to the site of the crash. From skid marks, broken glass and plastic, we could see what we believed was the exact spot a lovely farm girl breathed her last. My friend put down on the ground a small wooden cross. So small you could hold it in the palm of your hand. Small, intimate and beautiful in its simplicity. You could not see the cross from the roadway, so small you could not see it after you stood up and took a few steps back. We cried together for awhile on the side of that rural Illinois highway, then we left.

Now, I regually see very elaborate roadside memorials. Large crosses, flowers, wreaths, teddy bears, etc. I recently saw one with lights. Lit up with the kind of small, delicate string lights like you would see in the garden of a fine restaurant. I am not complaining, only observing. If it brings comfort to someone in need, it is all well and good by me.

I am a bit surprised it is allowed by the different state DOTs ... I guess they figure there could be no better public service announcement to keep your mind on road safety.

    Be safe out there everyone!

I got swaped around, did not have to go to that awful C&S wholesale in MA. After I handed off my load near Buffalo, I got deadheaded almost 600 miles to moose land. The paper mill up in Maine. Weird to me, to deadhead 600 miles east to pick up a load and drive it back 950 miles west to Indiana. Oh well, I am not complaining. Empty or loaded pay the same and it kept me moving.

In my two trips to California, I picked up a load of knocked down Chinese bicycles out of a warehouse in Compton and a load of flat screen TVs near long beach. Both times I made my delivery one day in the morning, both times I had to wait overnight to make my pick up the next day.

I strongly dislike that KW dealer. I suspect they pad warranty work so they can bill Kenworth for it. I sat 15 hours as they tore my truck apart. I brought it in because my dashboard fan was not working!

I miss driving out west, northern Ca., Oregon and Washington. The Salt Flats in Utah or 90 across Montana and that little town Coeur d'Alene, Id. so beautiful out there. Soon I will be there again but for right now just enjoy seeing all this open land on 80 into Cheyenne. Growing up I never imagined so much space and so little people. Just thought that was the movies. This country is so beautiful and I love seeing it every day. There are so many nice people in this country too bad when you turn on the TV all you see is the bad that is why I never watch the news. If it wasn't for the Queen or FB I would have never known about that stuff going on in STL.

I fell asleep with Lord of the Rings on my dvd player and that gave me weird dreams. I don't really remember except that I couldn't understand what some old guy was talking about.

    Be safe out there

Very nicely put, jaso. Even in the midst of all that is going on in Ferguson, there is good......I wish they reported it more. After the first night only one news source showed the people in the community out there with their brooms and shovels picking up and cleaning up, helping the store owners to set things back up and clean. Friday night the people joined hands and formed a barricade to stop the looters. For me.....I learned that even when facing the bad that goes on, look for the truth and look for the good ....it will be there. Most of the time it is standing quietly and unnoticed in the background.

JohnBoy, your experience with your friend touched my heart. What a profound and touching way to honor friendship and caring on his part .....and on yours.
