Once you complete all training and become a solo driver in tankers, you should be "bringing home" a thousand a week or more. Some OTR tanker drivers are making in the $80K range annually. I stayed in the $65K range. Once you become experienced with Schneider, you can move on in 12 months or so if you want. There's some good tanker companies that hire in your area once you have a few months experience. Schneider tanker is OK though, I'm sure not knocking them at all.
Hi West, that is kind of a tough one, personally, I wouldn't burn any bridges with your current job, and 800-1000 bucks is still a lot of money ,to me anyway. Of course Schneider is going to want you to hustle along, they need drivers BAD, but If you need a reference down the line, quitting a job with no notice could come back to haunt you. Don't let them pressure you, there's like a million trucking jobs out there, and schools are starting all the time. Do it right, give a notice, and take your vacation pay as a little cushion, and while you are in your notice time, check out other options for school, like I say, there are hundreds of companies looking for drivers now, they need you, not visa versa. Good luck.
I agree completely. Slow down! EVERYTHING you are looking for will be there when you're ready (School, Trucking Jobs, etc...).
People get WAY too excited and make hasty, and usually bad decisions.
I know what it's like to work a job that you can't stand, and can't wait to get out of...but to throw away 7 days vacation pay is foolish. You put up with the job long enough to EARN that 7 days...don't throw it away.
The thought of "burning bridges" by out-right quitting a job you despise and never plan to go back to has never bothered ME...but it DOES bother perspective employers.....especially, trucking companies that (due to nature of the business) trusts the employee with thousands of dollars worth of equipment and thousands of dollars worth of freight. If they see "quit without notice" on ANY reference form, the first thing they picture is a possible abandoned truck/trailer/load....and they will move onto the next application in the stack on their desk (especially if you have no other credentials like EXPERIENCE).

Do yourself a favor, and get your ducks in a row....collect your vacation pay, give your work ample notice, and THEN go to school.

WOW, you are determined to go to Schneider no matter what all the other posts are telling you. You are getting advice from experienced people that truly care about helping you. Anyway, if you can't give a notice at your current job for whatever reasons you have, you will not do well at Schneider, they are going to push you, upset you, give you information that you were not aware of, etc. All the stuff that makes employees hate the job their doing. So please give a legitimate notice at your job, get documents in order, whatever money you can come up with and go to this school. Give 100% to doing your job, stick it out for a year, then apply to a company you will like better, and probably make more money with. In MA we only need a tanker endorsement which we obtain from the DMV in the form of a 20 question test. usually done when new drivers obtain their class A permit.

I can't remember if you said you actually signed a contract, if you did, you're pretty much obligated to follow through. If you didn't sign anything yet, and this is all verbal, I'd call everyone, and politely tell them you have other options, and thank them for their offer. People change their minds all the time, and these recruiters know this. Don't rush into this! BTW, tanker driving takes an extra skill level, and I doubt a company would send you out solo for quite a while anyway, unlike other forms of trucking, where you can "learn as you go".

Thanks and im taking in all yalls suggestions in consideration. I feel pretty lucky to be able to talk to so many pros at one time. Im really leaning toward canceling CDL school and putting a 3 week notice in at work and catch the next 3 week CDL school. And reason I keep saying Schneider is because there the only one that told me they have a spot for me after I obtain my CDLSs. All other companys was more like giving me the run around seemed like. Schneider is also this private schools #1 pick so to speak. They have a tight bond if you would say.

No have not signed any paper work anywhere yet. But wouldn't be surprised if its in the mail. I have put in about 5 apps to 5 different trucking companys and out of them 5 Schneider seemed the most interested in hiring me. Btw there schooling program is in Memphis Tn and is only 55 miles away from my home. Maybe that's why they wanted to scoop me up after CDL school in Dyersburg TN idk.

Great advice here. As sucky as your job is, hang in there until you have all the paperwork in order. If a co says you need a hard copy of your license and your ss card...DO NOT GO UNTIL YOU HAVE THEM . Especially the ss card. No card, they'll send you right back home until you have one.
Good luck.
