Logging in general is babysitting and doesn't stop drivers from driving fatigued.
Case in point: See the daily trucking accidents, Walmart vs. Tracy Morgan, and etc.
It's a sad industry that de facto requires people drive 70 hours and work 98 hours and demands that they account for every hour of their activity, both driving and not driving, as well as "sleeping" or not.
It's absurd on its face when you take a minute and think about it.
At least coal miners aren't forced to live in their mine in an eight by eight box.

E-Logs will not prevent accidents, or improve Safety period. A well trained driver will improve Safety period. Technology will not improve Safety period. A well trained driver will improve Safety period. Raising the minimum liability insurence will not improve safety period. A well trained driver will improve safety period.
Its very simple. Throw all the laws and regulations that require more money for insurence, more money for technology, out the window. Make one simple law requiring company's and truck schools to give real life training to drivers, this will improve safety.
But this will never happen. Because this makes sense, and there's no money to made by lobbyist and government officials period. At the end of the day, all of this is about money and control, not safety period.AfterShock, Raiderfanatic and Lite bug Thank this. -
Simple fix. Have 24 hour time frame midnight to midnight. Allow us to drive any 12 hours in that time frame.

It amazes me, raiderfanatic, that there are still raider fans.

E-Logs are a joke.
A few drivers that have started with the company I work for came from JB Hunt, Schiender, ect. They had e-logs setup and their dispatch managers intentionally day in and out made space for them(delete and revise logs) to get their runs in faster. Although, they never came out and said to the drivers, "hey we're gonna play with your logs"... they'd say, "need to verify your logs and see how many hours you have". Violaaa, 4 more hours mysteriously appear!! ########! -
I drive for JB and I have NEVER had my logs amended by anyone else to find a secret stash of hours. Nor have I heard of it from any other drivers in the company. I will even hazard a guess and say I probably talk to more JB drivers than you. I think what you are saying is a load of malarkey because the dispatchers at JB have nothing to do with logs, they are just the go-between for the load planners and drivers, and take care of payroll and other incidentals. Besides if a driver doesn't have the hours to do whatever, JB would just repower the load or reschedule it's delivery because they have the resources to.

I like this idea. Split the difference between the 10 and the 14. Let drivers run when they want to run or as near to that as possible.crappiejunkie Thanks this.
