yard jockey trucks seem to have the most slang terms for them.......
hostler trucks
switcher trucks
yard dog
yard mule
yard goat
jockey truck
ottawa (company that makes some of them, but u call them an ottawa regaurdless of the manufacturer)

My truck for the year - and it is an Ottawa..haha.. -
The official term is converter gear I suppose - when pulling triples we call them dolly 1 and dolly 2..haha..
It is funny how when using different terminology it's like reading a foreign language.. -
and never ever use the Jake Brake in ice or snow, you will be asking for trouble

I use my jakes in snow all the time. Never had an issue.

In this neck of the woods we call then con gear/dollies. If we pull a set w/ a dolly trailing then we switch off the brakes on it but make sure the pintle ram is engaged. Seen a few on the side of the rode laying on the 5th wheel upside down.

I always put air to the dolly. You get less hopping, as well as breakaway protection. Just in case.
