Anyone on here do a western star glider kit ? Probably going to do a 4900sf with a 13.2 front axle. I have a donor truck 6nz fresh,18 speed, 46s on air liner. Just curious on any problems ? I have to do a western star because of the airliner suspension .

You have to pay new truck taxes. Glider kits usually fit well but it's slow going to keep from damaging it when putting it on. I'd recommend you ahve it clear coated with 3 coats of 2 part poly before putting it on the road. Light scratches will heal.

I put together a 2012 ws 4900sf. Ordered a rolling glider with air ride front axle. Put a 2ws 550 and 16915 in it. No problems to really speak of. Totally happy with the star. Been a great truck so far no issues. 3 years old now
Actually thinking of doing another here soon. Let me know if you got any questions. -
You can get a new rear suspension with the glider, even if you use your old rear end. Don't get me wrong, I like Stars and have spec'ed a 4900sf 244" wb glider out myself, but I went with a rolling glider as I wanted all disc brakes. If you wanted a Pete or a shaker, you'd be fine as you'd just order it with rear suspension. I sincerely doubt you would be that far ahead if you do use your old suspension after rebuilding and rebushing, and removing and reinstalling it. If you donate your drivetrain from your old truck, you shouldn't be subject to FET even under the new IRS ruling. I'm not a tax pro though.

Just as others have mentioned, I'd reccomend ordering the truck as a "rolling glider" with the rears and suspension already set up under the rear of the truck from the factory. As far as building a Western Star, they are very straight forward and fairly easy to build since the installation prep kits (electronic interface, piping kits, ect) can be ordered from the factory at the time of purchase of the Glider. You've got a great drivetrain combination with the 6NZ/18 speed to build a really nice truck!

Before you go any farther check the laws for FET on a glider. Buying it with factory installed rears will be affect the tax situation. The year, wear and corrosion should also determine whether or not you reuse them. What about a good salvage cutoff? This helps cut the cost, gets you updated, and gives you a choice for ratios. I believe you should be able to get the frame pre-drilled for a WS suspension. (peanut gallery opinion)

Come on guys. That's like asking what color is best to paint my truck.
You got your n14 , 12.7 troit and 3406e/c15.
Pick your poison. Lots people have had excellent results with any one of those engines.
Go with what you like best and most comfortable wrenching on IMO.Cetane+ Thanks this.
