Mansur pays by percentage so it'll be interesting to see what you wind up at per mile. According to their ads that I've seen which are few it's supposed to work out to over .50 cents a mile. No tarp pay as that's figured in. % is supposed to be in the drivers favor in flatbed from what I've read. They're home weekends too. The driver that posted on my thread said he'd only been out 2 weekends in 2 years. I think he hit every state east of Texas except Maine if I remember.
I'm still thinking on driving, just not sure I want to do flatbed. The tarping in the crappy weather is the holdup but if I do drive I want to look forward so if I like it to O/O possibly and flatbed seems better for that.
Let us know how the securement training goes and how you like driving in Chicago. I guess that's what you'll be doing a lot of while training. You've got an advantage though being from Rockford I'm sure you're there often. They do sound like a good small company.

Ok first week down 2 more to go of training. I love how they do training here, they send you out with the local drivers so you get back to the yard everyday and go to hotel instead of being stuck in a 6x6 box. First trainer was awesome been with company 15 years and ofcourse was extremely knowledgable so i learned a ton. They didn't hold any punches with me my first load was 60ft reebar out of chicago (legal in illinois, oversized in wisconsin). Got some praise from trainer for the way I backed up which was nice, we were set up blind side so I just manuvered around so I could back sight side.
Second day of driving took us to Appleton,WI to unload the reebar. Little trickier back but not too bad just did a 45 into the bay door. After that we deadhead over to Spencer, WI for a load of pallet lumber to deliver to Chicago.
Third day was delivery of the lumber, which started with bad directions so ended up on wrong street in chi town lol was some tricky right turns to get to the correct place but didn't hit anything so all good. Learned a good lesson in taking ALLLL the space needed to make a turn. Had to make a right from a 8 lane onto a 2 lane so had to ease my way across all traffic to complete the turn. After that was unloaded we Deadheaded to Gary, IN to pick up some reebar for bridge construction. Then back through chicago to janesville.
Fourth Day we delivered the reebar to portage, WI which required me to back 1 mile down the road to park under the crane. Only had 2 guys there so we helped with the unload. Then bounced to pick up some structural steel.
I love the training here, I was scared before getting a job to go into Chicago but found it's really not bad at all if you maintain space and sitiuational awarness. Start the next week with a dif trainer then that friday I should be assigned my truck, then another trainer will go with me in my truck for that last week. Ill update this again asap. -
Sounds like it's going good there. Are you only going to get the local training and nothing out overnight? That seems a little odd as they run the entire eastern half of the U.S. A plus is you'll probably get more securing experience and Chicago drive time. How much tarping are you doing? Thanks for updating. I wondered how it was going.

Abou 75% of their freight is in a five state rqdius...wi,il,in,mi, ia. So probably more regional than otr. I have yet to tarp yet the lumber we picked up was pallet lumber so no tarp for that, just hauled insulation, 60' reebar, lumber, and a bunch of random reebar withpalllets of other stuff for bridge construction, and the big structuaral stèel.
Yeah the chicago drive time is nice actually good experience, they said my last week of training will be all in and out of the chi. And im really liking flatbed, nice to get out of the truck once and awhile. Thanks for your interest gold. -
Sounds good and with being on percentage like they pay it's not the attitude of you've got to run miles. As long as it's financially right that's what matters. Keep updating this thread if you can. It's a small company and what I've read on here about them they take care of their employees. I'd like to see what % of loads they typically tarp as that seems to be a gripe for some drivers with flatbed in general. It sounds like you'll be getting plenty of Chicago experience and you'll be able to maneuver around that city pretty well working for them. I know you said you went to a school down there around Rockford, didn't they ever take you guys into Chicago? I thought they would have done it for the experience.
