I think by law schools have to teach double clutching. You only have to step on the clutch an inch not all the way to the floor like a personal vehicle. You're finding out shifting a semi is nothing like a car.Like someone said, don't overthink it and relax.Otherwise by the end of the day your poor left leg will be in pain.Just relax you'll get it.Double clutching isn't a pain.I do it if I can't get it into gear when I float and when im stopped I double clutch.
I hate double clutching!!!!

I originally learned to drive a truck by floating. After my first couple of months on the road I got back home, got into my stick shift Ford, then got all kinds of looks from the neighbors as I proceeded to try to jam that sum batch into 2nd....
... then I remembered the clutch thingy.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
Wax on, wax off. Wax on, wax off.

If i can just think about what i'm doing for a few seconds i'm fine, but he says double clutching must be fast. I've managed to do it a few times, but mostly so far i get stuck in neutral before going to the third gear he wants. I mostly forget that second tap. Then the gears grind.

Its funny. Learned to drive a stick in school on a semi. Never drove one in a regular vehicle. Used the shop truck once from the terminal. Was in shop and they needed parts. I was bored so offered to go get. Shop truck was a stick. Got some looks when I tried to downshift from 5th to 4th. Then realized in pickup can stop in 5th the reset to 1st. Was quite funny. Told my dad about it who tried to teach me to drive a stick a few times. He just laughed and called me a #######.

my problem is the reverse gear be tween both vehcilew. -
I have double clutched lite duty trucks that had a non-sincro granny low before getting it in to first gear (L/1/2/3) as I found it easier to get into first.
So the double clutching thing I dont think I will have an issue with when the time comes, its the not pushing the pedal all the way to the floor because of the clutch brake that may throw me off.

Or just do what I did. I fake pumped the pedal and floated.
Lepton1 and harlycharly55 Thank this. -
Can someone tell me why we double clutch in the first place? It is easy when you get used to it but I never understood what difference it really makes over just single clutching like on a car.
