I could not be there, but one of my friends went, in a brown van ( he could not afford diesel for the trip in his tractor). I called my Senator who did go meet with some of you.. Thank you and all who did participate, be assured that many who will not strike still supported your protest.

I'm busy fighting here, or I would have been there GearJammer! I know it's a 3000 mile drive for me, but I can get 30 MPG in the Nissan, so I would have done it!
-
GearJammer my thanks to you and all the others who were able to go. It was a huge expense to undertake and unfortunately as you said not enough were able to do it. The ones that did will certainly help. Thanks!
-
Applauding gearjammer and all the rest who are at least trying.... I personally believe that you (all of the drivers) are the only reason that Bush called a special news conference yesterday!
My understanding is that the next stage is a May 5th shutdown. I will stand right along side of you (as much of the general public is doing right now) by staying home on Monday with my little sign supporting the shutdown..... -
I'm sure that was that was the reason and not the economy in general... -
Some asked for solutions.
Some organized a shutdown.
Some demanded a parade around DC.
Some are seeking involvement from the general public.
I have come to the conclusion that the only RIGHT answer is shut down, slow down, protest, demand the government do something and stop buying fuel.
I suppose I should be ashamed that I am only looking out for my own business, but guess what? I'm not!
Darwin was absolutely right. -
If you all decide to strike, I am behind you, but I think we NEED the public to understand WHY they are paying more for everything they buy.
THe only thing that is really, truly going to do any good is if EVERYONE who intends to stay in business raises their rates, to meet or exceed costs.
Sooner or later, those running in the red, who refuse to raise rates, will be run out of business. That WILL leave loads sitting. Then if shippers intend to get the product to market, they WILL have to pay the prevailing rate.
You and I all know that this cost WILL be passed on to the consumer. And this is where the public comes in. We do NOT consume everything we transport. The GENERAL PUBLIC does. If they do not understand why everything is going up in price, the outcry will be directed at us. If we simply stop running, the outcry will be directed at us.
If this is explained CORRECTLY to the public, they will direct the outcry where it belongs. At the Oil industry, and at Washington.
The only thing that can really screw things up is if drivers are allowed up here from Mexico, and that is because they can and DO run cheaper. -
Sure we can shut down and not earn a living for ? [days, weeks] And while our trucks are sitting and we are not buying fuel for them,do you think the rest of the public will stay home ,not earn a living and stop buying gasoline ? Don"t think so.
-
They can't buy what's not there.

Next time you hear a tree hugger say no drilling, kick their ###. There is enough oil in this country to sustain us for a hundred years. Start drilling!!!Finally someone who thinks like me!!!!
