That's if it's a one piece clutch brake. I have a two piece on mine. Two pins/rods can be used to squeeze together and then separate the brake. Takes more time taking the cover off of tranny than replacing clutch brake.
We were having issues with the clutch brake. It wouldn't release or something. Like within three weeks it would break a tab. Was really frustrating. Mechanics looked at it and were saying operator error. Big arguments, cause I knew better. Not long after clutch came apart. Turns out there was something wrong....shaft was bent? Something about "run through". Never quite understand wtf they were talking about. But they did apologize and take back blaming it on me. lol
is clutch braking real or a myth?

There's nothing to relearn. As many, many posters have said, don't push the clutch all the way to the floor if truck is moving. Really simple. You can feel it, about an inch or two from the floor. It's simple.

Or your clutch might just be out of adjustment.

I went to road masters and all the road trucks had working clutch brakes only ones that didn't were a couple of the yard trucks that didn't. Depends on the school I'd say and their maintenance practice's.

You learned to drive truck in the UK,but you now live in Texas? Isn't there some kind of law that says you have to say "Y'all " now ?

Well if I go by my school's training trucks then clutch braking is a myth.

LOL last week we did D&H and I got to kiss the trailer with the 5th wheel and was ready for the broken clutch brake. I took it easy getting it into gear and it went in with out too much work.
1 guy looked like he was fighting with the shift lever slamming it all over the place. I want to jump up on the tank and slap him and ask him if that is how he handles his girl friend?
I also asked the teacher about the clutch brake on the school trucks and he just looked at me and smirked
