Hello all,
First post here, but long time lurkerMy question is regarding the main difference between Classic, Classic XL, and Columbia. I'm going to orientation at a company that I worked for last year, for about 6 months. I will be driving Midwest regional, same as last time, company driver.
The company offers the models mentioned above, 2006 and newer, all condo. All have DD 60 12.7, with mainly 13 speeds, some 10. My first time around I drove a Columbia. It was a decent truck, turned well, comfortable, good interior room and storage, good viewing range with mirriors for backing. A little bumpy/shaky going down the road (insert freightshaker comments), but all around decent truck.
So with all of that in mind, of my likes and dislikes, what would I be in for if I decided to take a Classic or XL? Longer wheelbase, harder to turn? How much so? Better ride? Smoother down the road? I've heard from other drivers that the classic styles are easier to live in and drive day to day. So what's all of your opinions?
And yes I've used the search bar, darn near to death. I couldn't find a post that asked/discussed specifically what I'm asking. Thank you all for your input!

Most of your Classics and XL are more suited for the O/O. Most O/O prefer the longer hood because of the ride. The Classic and XL usually don't get the fuel mileage of the Columbia. The Columbia is more suited to the fleet companies, and for some 0/0 for the fuel economy. The Classics and XL take more room to make turns and can be a nightmare in tight spots. The Columbia you can pretty much get in anywhere. With one year experience I would start with the Columbia then once you get more comfortable I d try the Classic.

Classics have terrible turning radius

I have a 2013 Columbia glider. except for the hood and setback axle, it is the same cab and sleeper as the Coronado glider. Just a sloped hood, which I have grown fond of since I crawled into my first Ant Eater in '92. I got the newer Detroit steer axle on this one, and the turning radius is the tightest I have ever had. maneuvers great in some real tight spots. And the ride is pretty good for a aero truck with set back axle.
