My first post and wow am I glad there is a forum like this in existence. I've been involved in the Transportation of goods since 2004. I went from Class C to B and now to A. I hired in with this company to gain some time behind the wheel of a Tractor Trailer. I needed experience after graduating from Trainco Truck Driving school who I highly recommend. They are in Taylor Michigan if interested and will teach you the do's and don'ts of Class A driving. I decided to take the first position offered to me that would have me home every night. I have a Dachshund, who I took from a rescue a few years back with a promise he would be with me for the rest of his life or mine, which ever comes first. Unfortunately as I was told, I would have no problem finding an over the road position that will allow me to carry him with me. Most company drivers face companies that do not allow Dogs in their trucks. From the stories I have been told at this point, I can understand why to a certain degree. With that said after 3 months of calling and trying to talk anyone in to allowing me to take him along, I hit EL Hollingsworth which I will refer to as ELHC. They told me straight forward that 30 cents a mile would be the pay and I would get 2500 miles a week, be home pretty much every night with an exception here and there, and when a problem comes along there is an open door policy. Well, well well, did I learn fast that I was handed a line of BS and should have walked away from something that sounded to good to be true. I was told there is respect for all driver's due to us being the life blood of the business. I knew when I took the position I was being told some BS. I have worked every kind of job there is out there since the age of 15 and have never come across any company that completely keeps their promises. I live in the real world and learned along the way that business is business and if you are not directly related to an owner or a higher up you are looked at as a very replaceable commodity. That's the way it is everywhere. This operation takes the cake for the worst company I have worked for in my life. I can not imagine anyplace else being worse then this totally unorganized, Hodge-Podge of confusion, disrespect, and total disregard for their Drivers. I am actually glad I experienced this because I know things will only be better from this point on. ELHC does mostly local runs in my area from both Flint and Plymouth Michigan to Fort Wayne Indiana and back. I am busy gathering my notes as to what took place for the last two months I spent there. I don't want to spend my whole Saturday afternoon bashing this Company (although with what has occurred I could). I just want to tell it like it is to fore warn anyone who may read this before signing on with them as an employee. In my opinion you will be sorry. I am stepping back for a little bit while I go through my notes and do my errands. I want to finish this up being truthful and with the hopes that perhaps when I get done it will be for the betterment of anyone employed or contracting with ELHC. I sure as heck am not going back there that's all I know. I quit first then was told I was terminated by a dispatcher who wanted to sound like he has authority and needed to best his fists on his chest. I'm real impressed Tim! You terminated me after I Quit! That should easily make for a good easy unemployment claim since the entire incident was caught on the both the video and audio of my personal dash cam. It's 16:30 in the afternoon and have things to do. I will add plenty more to this to truthfully back up everything I have said above with times and dates and a brief on what took place. Overall I loved the road, the driving, some of the characters I met already, sitting back and listening to the radio or talk shows during the drives, and the entertainment I get when I see someone in a four wheeler do something completely stupid with a rig near by. I made the best of it and will continue on to do so. It just is not going to be with this company. I fail to understand how they continue to operate and be profitable after experiencing what I did. I do understand now why they are training two new drivers every week. Perhaps it's the last straw for the drivers that are there due to past problems. I don't know and I don't care. I just know that if I didn't go when I did I may have gotten myself in to problems with hours of service, safety issues, and my federal PSP report. More is to come to this. Either I will add to this comment or just continue replying to it to make everything easy to understand. I do not need this Company for any type of reference since only 2 months was spent there. I just know way to much for a person that was there for such a short time. I'll be back.

We know this company is a rotten outfit to work for ,we ran them out of Detroit ,just mention "the tobacco bandit"
they got a dose of mad driver in 2002 ,this single driver ( tobacco bandit) shut down a whole fleet of trucks in one day
Which made ford motor co to think twice about letting carry their frght ,he did this by putting a handful of tobacco in each fuel tank ,late one night after a long day of short pay
The next day was a nightmare for them ,they had trucks down all over MI,OH,IN .....they never did catch " the tobacco bandit" .....they wanted to prosecute this man to the fullest extant of the law ....but guess who is still laughing his butt off at them to this day ? .....sounds like they another lesson .

I worked for this company, they're no different than any other company except they do 90% automotive freight and their trucks are older.

I quit working for them over last winter when I was tired of driving through blizzards. Now I'm doing something else, but if I were go to back on the road, I would ask to be hired back. They have a lot of round trip lanes for O/O and sometimes company drivers when they can't find a willing O/O. They do not pay well, I will tell you that. I got 33cpm with my 4 years of clean-record experience.

While I was an instructor at a CDL school in Michigan, worked there five years, Hollingsworth/Chieftan came out on recruiter night. There were two of them one female one male. You may find this hard to believe but I swear it is true. The man said come to work for us, we hire anybody, work for us for a year then you can go and get a GOOD JOB. I almost feel out of my chair. If management talkes about the company like that it has to be really bad. We had some students go there to get that year in.
