Ok. Now I got it. The wrong member was accused of posting it.
I understand how some folks may feel about the casual and sometimes flippant use of those words by others, regardless of whether the poster meant it maliciously or towards anybody in particular, but we're not going to have a maelstrom in this thread about it. Thank you very much.
Carry on. -
OP: Did you stop before and not shift while crossing a railroad track? Did you GOAL when backing? Did you hit any curbs? Did you stay in the lane instructed? Lots of ways to fail a road test -- especially for someone with the (over)confident attitude your posts convey.
It was actually said by David Hannum (in reference to P.T. Barnum's customers). -
Simple.
Claiming you failed the road test is often used to hide the real reason.
And,
basically releases them of any liability.Lepton1 and Toomanybikes Thank this. -
I stand corrected. Still works, though.
-
Whatever, this saying is usually attributed to old Phineas Taylor. Regardless of who actually said it.

I don't understand why "people" keep doing this to themselves.
I see threads after threads of noobies and drivers asking about this and that mega carrier.. and I'm thinking to myself.. really do you really think you'll do good feeding the big shark so he can take care of you?
Well let me say this..
Mega carriers are not in business for YOU
Mega carriers just want THEIR MONEY
Mega carriers have NOTHING TO LOSE by working with you.
Mega Carriers don't care about YOUR personal life.
They dont give a $.05 about your health.
Mega Carriers don't care about YOUR HOME TIME.
Whine, complain all you want, it doesn't matter if you are simply the best or if you suck up enough, if your job is not in the Mega Carriers agenda you'll be put on the street without any one having remorse.
Imho out of my own little experience;
I worked for:
Prime
Navajo
National carriers
ATS
Sure you want taxes out and benefits.. lol; I see the benefit of driving a stripped truck and never being home, and when you finally get to go home (who knows through what so much trouble) your checks are never over 500 a week avg in all weeks worked.
Thats like working at burger king to me.
I wished there was a way to warn peeps so we wouldn't have had to go through this but some of us just don't listen.
Good luck driverToomanybikes, Joetro and HotH2o Thank this. -
Can't argue any of the theories here, because I wasn't there. I'll add the theory that it might just have been a bad tester.
I failed a road test about five years ago. Guy giving the test was crazy IMO and had no business evaluating anybody.
Some of the reasons I failed...
- Making note of missing lights on truck and trailer during my PTI. He said it was no big deal and I was wrong for even looking at them.
- Not noticing that one rivet holding the side panels on the trailer was missing. Said I never should have moved the truck like this.
- Shifting gears in order and not skipping gears. Told me that anyone who didn't skip gears on every shift didn't know how to shift.
- Wanting to use the RH mirror, which was bent and falling off the truck. Claimed that even looking at it once meant I wasn't experienced enough.
- Starting from a stop on a steep hill in a low gear. Said that anything lower than fourth meant I didn't know how to work the clutch.
There were several more things, none of which made sense to me. Just showed me that not all driving tests are fair or make sense. Also taught me not to stress over it, because if they trust someone who I think is that wrong, I know that I'm not going to fit in if they hire me.
To be totally fair, I should add that it had been a few years since I'd been behind the wheel and a few years more than that since I had to shift gears. I think I should have passed, but will also admit that I was out of practice enough that there were legitimate things I did that needed improvement. Had I been failed for any of those things, I would have understood. -
You know if I had someone like that tell me even one thing, I would have stopped the truck and walked back to my car. Then report him to the state for what he was telling me.
-
Let go by CR England?
Send them a "thank you" card.
