Well, I know I have roughly a year before I can do anything but I went ahead and tried to get some information on some companies. I have been to many websites and I have been doing a lot of research. I did online chatting with Maverick. They do not hire out east of i95 and I was trying to explain to them that I would be transitioning and would not have permanent residence when I did apply and driving a few hours would not be a problem but I don't think the person on the computer completely understood. I am going to call them and get more info as I didn't care for the computer chat. Flatbedding seems like it would be challenge and a lot of fun and the money to be made is out there if you work and that is something I am not scared of.
I have been reading about the downtime and trailer hunting with dry-van and refer and that doesn't sound very appealing but I will take what I can.
I called and left a voicemail with Schneider asking about their military apprenticeship program around 1800 and was very surpised to get a call a few hours later. The lady was very nice and answered a lot of questions and provided me with everything they have to offer and has me very interested in them and their bulk division. I plan to contact other companies in the area and make sure that the 2 schools that are in my area would be accepted prior to applying with them. -
I start my CDL course on May 2nd, 8 week weekend course at a community college.
I contacted a few places about orientation and what they have to offer for the area that I am in. I want to do flatbed, but if something else comes up, I would take that too. I talked to Cargo Transporters but as a new guy doing teams with someone in the back sleeping while I am learning doesn't seem to smart to me. But they didn't sound like too bad of a company and the recruiter was a pretty nice guy.
CT Transportation basically invited me to orientation. The recruiter told me to fill out an application and he would keep in touch with me once a week until it was time to go to Savannah. He answered all of my questions and didn't try to sell me on the company, I think I asked enough questions to where he really didn't have to. Home on weekends but free to stay out longer if you want too, 40 CPM and 1800-2300 miles per week on average. 65% of the loads are pre-tarped and loaded. Basically I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about CT Transportation, there isn't a lot on the forums about them that I can find.
TMC sounds like a good deal too, but I have read a lot of negative about them as well. TMC has the apprenticeship program which would be a plus with the extra cash, but I would rather be somewhere that I would like for a few years, rather than be miserable with a little extra money. Maverick sounds really good, but I am out of their hiring area.
