I think you misunderstand. The actual is 35% of all truckers.

sorry for the misunderstanding. whether its 35% of all truckers or 35% of all population, traveling abroad, locally or nationally, with possession of, for personal or commercial, or with intent of acting upon physically is a crime and should be dealt with harshly. my opinion at least. a mom of two children i adore and protect, makes all this a sore subject and think more parents should become more aware of crap like this going on especially where theres children and access to the net.

No need to apologize. It just amazes one to consider the magnitude of the problem. It makes no sense to me.

If I may play devil's advocate here, and I'm not at all condoning the possession or the production of child pornography, I wonder exactly how this program works that finds this alleged child porn on these trucker's laptops?

What I mean is, I've seen porn being titled as teen porn when it was actually models from 18-21 years old. I'm only questioning this because of the way that the media loves to spin things. We can't always assume people are truly guilty of the crimes they're charged with. Look at the guy who was just released from a Texas prison after serving 28 years (I think that's right) for a crime he never committed. Likewise, with the percentage being as high as it is, I'm wondering if Canada's software used to find this "child porn" isn't maybe somewhat flawed.

There is a very thin fine line here. On one hand, you don't want to let someone who truly is collecting actual child porn freely walk the streets, but on the other hand you don't want to ruin the life of a guy who might have some porn on his laptop that's not actual child porn. Yes, porn in and of itself may be disgusting to some, but there are others who see nothing wrong with it. And those that do see nothing wrong with it will likely have a large collection of multimedia on their computer or a small collection of DVDs. And the titles of some of those videos or files just might have the word teen in it. Doesn't make it actual child porn, though.

The software that is used is not just Canada software. It is the same as used in the US.

It searches pictures whether hidden or even erased. The scan on my laptop took 45 minutes.

It searches by more than jpig and etc. It even found forms from my tax programs and IRS searches that it considered pictures. They had icons of yours and cybergals for example that showed up. US maps from my mapping software, weather channel site and anything you could imagine. I could not catch a pattern to what it looked at. They loaded the cd into the computer and it took off.

I'm sure you and I and the rest of the general public will never know how the software works. That's the idea of it. As soon as someone knows how it works, someone will know how to get around it.

The point of my counterpoint wasn't solely about the software. I was also implying how they might not actually have true under-18 child porn. Although we are talking about Canada, and maybe their law states no one under 21.

Again, I want to emphasize how repulsive actual child porn is and how anyone that possesses, produces, or otherwise condones it needs to have serious legal action taken against them and removed from society.

Ah, no. What you will find is that the laws and enforcement in the U.S. are generally more restrictive than here ... ages of consent and majority being examples.

They did advise that it was 18 and under. But the bad thing is what they consider pornography. They look for any pictures showing sex, adult to adult. They then elaborated that they were more interested in child pornography.

It had me concerned, since if you have ever looked at some of the working girl pictures in Nevada like sherris, could they be called pornography.

It was a very unnerving time and I had considered leaving the computer at home from then on, but what about the internet, weather planning and if a tax client calls. I really felt violated.

Yes, the people with the disgusting child pornography and etc are the bottom of the barrel and should be dealt with.

You don't hear about people getting searched by US customs nearly as often as you do Canadian.

Actually, my truck is searched almost 50% of the time returning to the US. Especially in Portal, ND.

Friends have had their computers searched there as well.
