Yep, what you said. bleeding. You hear the air when you crank up the trailer.

That was over 6 months ago that I went through training, but he at the time had a year and a half experience with the company I was with. I was his first student, then on his second student he quit the company. Me and him are still good friends, we talk over the phone, getting insight into what's going on in the other's world.

During the training period however, I'd not even dare to say we were even remotely friends. But usually my closest friends are one's who I disliked at first and for some reason we still end up remaining in contact then before you know it we're going on hunting trips together, having backyard barbeques, fishing, you name it. I have no idea why it's that way...

I find it hard to believe anyone would give you any problems.

When you are bobtailing and have a chance to look at the 5th wheel, do you see shiny metal or maybe a layer of sandy grit? Or are you looking at a nicely greased 5th wheel?

In the two weeks you have been on the truck how many drop and hooks do you think the two of you have done, and in that time has the trainer bothered to put new grease on the 5th wheel?

If you do a lot of drop and hooks and don't bother keeping the 5th wheel properly greased, then that can make for some lurching when you pull out from under a trailer.

You can save 5th wheel grease by using STexan's advise in post #2 and it should pull out very easily.

You should also dump the air bags before backing under a trailer, then stop just in front of the kingpin (with the 5th wheel under the trailer) and reinflate the air bags. That way you don't wipe the grease off on the front edge of the trailer. After the air bags are inflated if the landing gear isn't raise off the ground an inch or so, go crank them up until you have about an inch clearance from the ground. Then back in and hear the kingpin lock click and do your tug test. By raising the landing gear you save putting stress on the landing gear when the trailer moves slightly sideways into the slot on the 5th wheel (which puts a bind on the landing gear and can make it difficult to start cranking them up off the ground).

At Swift, anything is possible. Just as long as that "Anything" doesn't involve "Your success"

Have a couple otr one's I'm looking into. However, oddly enough I found a local delivery job hauling beverages right in my hometown that's hiring with as little as 6 months experience. Have to apply in person though, they don't want phone calls. So as soon as I can I'm going to go to their address and see what all that would entail, they left very little details on the job opening ad.
