I wish everybody would figure this into their rates! New truck every 5 years.
As a one man circus I never was concerned with truck value. My goal was to get a new truck and keep it until I retire. Rebuild costs will never exceed replacement. You can't even replace my non-computer truck anyway.
Equipment life cycle.....

They "western express" there driver hit my truck!

You need a better insurance agent. You should be able to mitigate your loss. This may mean you go out and rent a truck to run for a week, and then have Western Express reimburse rental expenses above the cost of ownership. I've had this happen 3 or 4 times in 10 years in our fleet and we've been able to collect on the at fault party everytime.

Just hope their insurance company doesn't come on here and find out BAYOU only works about 9 days a month ... lol
BAYOU and RedForeman Thank this. -
Bayou, I had a pipe hauler almost tear my door off at Shawcor. They got my truck fixed and paid me down time... nice lil check I got from them.
had to fight for the money but well worth the effort. -
My equipment life cycle is still in it's prime at 16 years old and never had the thought of selling it. I had it for the last 12 and it has a little over 1.9 million on it. I do all my own repairs and rebuilds and a few for neighbors as well. Within the last year and a half I've rebuilt power divider, swapped transmission, and overhauled engine. Sounds like I'm good for another million. Time to save for paint job
tsavory, SL3406 and double yellow Thank this. -
Well there not even paying what it's going to cost me to fix my truck they told me take it or leave it! This has been going on for over a month I said F it and dropped it off to get it fixed and paying out my pocket!

sucks brother.. sorry to hear.
FYI when that happened to me , I had to bug the ins co , sometimes 3 times a day phone calls, tons of emails and any other way I could think of. They asked for bills of ladings and confirmations to confirm what I was claiming as lost income.
They offered peanuts and I didn't accept it , I guess they got tired because they got my truck fixed and paid my down time. -
That's how ins companies work. There was no take it or leave it with them. They were just waiting you out until you took it or hired an attorney. They figured the ball was in their court cause your income was down and couldn't afford to wait. That happened to me years ago when I totaled my first truck. Since then I've been in 2 accidents. Both the other peoples fault and I just drop it off at body shop and give them the other parties ins. Info and never had a problem.

What did your insurance company say? Don't you usually call them and let your ins co deal with theirs? Is WE self insured?
