Forced chaining = Bull snot. No one ever forces me to do anything. My CDL, my safety= my call. That said, there is nothing wrong with slinging iron to get through a rough patch. I'll throw chains to clear a mountain, but I'm not driving for 4-6 hours on them.

I run out of Denver, so chains it is, but like Palazon said, it's my call how I run the truck I'm driving. If I don't have a good feeling about the conditions, I don't go. Never has anyone at IDC questioned my judgement.

So according what you saying if I am driving on mountains and it is icy and I need to chain what would IDC say if I choose not to chain and instead to
pull off the road due to weather conditions? Can you give me some more information about IDC such as average mile a week, equipment conditions, home time, etc? Thank you.

Ok, you'll get the standard "are you sure?" message but after that it'll be "Be safe and use your best judgment".

Tractors are kept in top notch condition. Trailers leave a bit to be desired, but they do the best they can. They are also working very hard on upgrading the trailer fleet (air slide tandems, automatic air for trailer tires, etc). The reefer fleet has gotten the priority on this with new Hyundia trailers and smart reefers for Thermo king.

Mile per week depend on you, freight etc, but my average is 9500 per month running I-5. Home time is the standard 1/7. Allow me to add that the day you get home doesn't count on that. Example: I reach my home terminal on Thursday and deliver it Friday morning; IDC counts my day off as Saturday. Since my house is 10 miles from the terminal, I spend Thursday and Friday night at home.

I've been here a bit over a year. I rarely sit for any time, and my tractor has never been loaned out while I'm home. Only once have they kept me out past a scheduled home time (1 day). Weak spots are communication. I've had them attempt to dispatch me with my truck in the shop. I've told them I don't have HOS for a run and they've dropped the ball on setting up a relay. Small stuff, but it can get frustrating.

I would have to say the biggest weakness is communications. I work hard to stay on top of keeping my FM informed about ETA and PTA times and I usually have loads lined up back to back. I have only sat once and that was for a day last January, but freight is slow that time of year and I was happy to get moving after only one day.

Sal, they just upgraded a computer system. That may be the cause of the phone problems. Use the IDC website and drop an email to a recruiter.

    sal Thanks this.

You might want to call Joe as I learned bout him just yesterday. He used to drive for Interstate and is now a head hunter for several firms including Interstate and he got me hooked up. His info is on his site at cdldrivingjob.info Tell him you spoke with Rowdy Jason he will know who I am. Pretty straight shooter and had a lot of nice things to say bout Interstate! His direct number is 5014089881. Hopefully that helps any having phone issues. Truck em Safe!

Id suggest calling a recruiter at Interstate directly. Patti has been there about 30 years and is the one who hired me and a couple of my friends. 253-538-4297
