I turned down a load like that after experiencing the same thing on my first and last load. The pipe was not in crates and was just laid on top of each other. Think about it. Going down the road and hitting just one bump will cause the pipe to settle and at that point all the straps are loose. Pipe stakes won't help. They are only about 3' to 4' tall and are not meant to keep pipe in and are really just used for loading.

Pipe that I do take is in a frame with small 2"x1" wood framed around a bundle of pipe maybe 2' high by 4' wide.

i use a chain and strap on my 4 foot pipe stakes. loop chain around stake. over load to other side of trailer. hook strap to chain and winch it down.

i alternate the straps. tried the double wrap but 30's aren't long enough. to do it properly. you can loop double on the bottom. but not the top. on the load i had anyways. now i've got some 35's for them stepdeck loads of pvc pipe. haven't had regular pipe yet to try em out with.

You don't use pipe stakes or put chains over plastic pipe.

Belly straps are a great help to prevent a leaning and then alternating straps are mostly important to the front and rear.

I agree with the gut straps & alternating the direction of the pull.

& thanks to whoever talked about "holy" straps. I call it "Mexican style". I was taught to tighten the crap out of everything. Guys that use a 18" winch bar & barely snug them drive me nuts.

Straps over each bundle help greatly keeping it straight
