When I was a kid my dad always call me early in the morning to help him pull a cable with a stick ( we call descompresionator). The motor at first had slow RPM's and it it started to speed up. As it speed up I would let go of the stick and the motor would start up.good memories guys!!!

Here is a picture of what I'm trying to explain. Engine is a NTC 350 -
I go with compression release also .
I drove one back in 81 that had the shiney 290 with the compression release . -
Picture won't open. All joking aside from my first post, does the cable go to a linkage housing inline and slightly higher than lifter box locations? That was where the comp release shaft to the push tubes would be located, according to the small cam cummins old timers.

Is this truck a positive ground

1st of all, congratulations on the Road Boss. Mercy sakes, I haven't seen one of those in years. They were actually good trucks, as I had an '82 Western Star that was a White product at the time. 2nd, pretty sure it's a compression release, that motor could be older than a '78. Friend had a '76 KW with a 3 &1/2 Cummins, and it had one. I don't think it's positive ground, one sure way to find out,,,ZZZAAAPPP
