Try applying at a local ltl co. Start out on the dock maybe as a combo driver. Maybe foodservice company. Twenty hours of truck school is pretty much the same as you renting the truck and taking test by yourself. Did you have experience moving /backing tractor trailer around prior to going to school? Probably the school felt you didnt need much behind the wheel. As long as you have the certificate of completion, I dont think you will have a problem locally

The 5 is far worse than the 99.

I run the 99 all the time.

Dootson has a good reputation locally.

A lot of the local companies use them for training drivers.

I do not know how you only got 20 hours of training.

There has got to be more to this story!

Have you asked them for placement?

More places to stop on the 99 if I remember correctly. I did the 5 one time and I was like holy crap-o-moly where oh where is there going to be another truck stop!

SWIFT would probably take him, put him through their OTR mentoring program.

    Really?

That's exactly what I did and did it several times.

I walked into the office of my present employer, asked if they are hiring, the girl at the desk said "no" so I asked if I can fill out an app and she handed me an app, I filled it out handed back to her, plus my MVR and said thank you. Went home, made dinner and got a call that night for an interview. I've been working for them since October.

I've worked for more small companies than large ones in my life and many times I got hired by walking in the front door and asking for an app.

I don't get people when they say you can't do that - there is no national policy for hiring, you just need to get of your butt and put some effort into it.

This is exactly how I got most jobs in my life too. You have to make things happen for yourself. Be a go getter.

Swift requires 240 hours. Prime *may* take him, and put him with a trainer for 40K team miles (about 2 months).
