trucker gps question.

If you cant navigate the ship with one foot , your not doing it right... lol

You know , thats why they have them there detour signs..

Plus I said I use that when I feel my gps is leading me astray , and they do ..

 

... But that goes back to the reading comprehension; Or lack thereof...

 

If people cant read road signs . They dont belong in a industry where you drive for a living .. just sayin

 

And here I thought this industry was also like the pilots that fly the planes of the world. English has to be the primary language.

Detour signs are only as good as the people that put them up, and all to often are incomplete. They will detour you away from the construction but it's a crap shoot if they lead you back on route.

 

Man, some serious technophobes here.... lol. There is nothing wrong with using a GPS as long as you don't turn off the brain too. Every tool has it's purpose.

 

Oh dont get me wrong . If I go somewhere new I use mine .

But it is like you said you have to use your brain along side of it .

For instance , we had a driver a few weeks back . His gps told him to turn onto a road and he did . He ended up a few miles back in the woods on a dirt road needing towed out . Common sense goes along way these days , bit its a shame not many people have it..

 

I had a trainer that showed it to me. It is out of normal view of operator, so it doesnt create a distraction. Real simple to glance up there to find next turn or distance. A rag will wipe it off when your at your destination. Granted the trainer would write the directions into a small notepad, as eventually after maybe 50 loads or so the company would give him repeats.

All I am saying is to try it. If it isnt helpful dont bother. Yet if you havent been some place yet, it is alot easier / safer to glance at the windshield than to take your eyes off the road to look at notes that may be written else where while driving down the road.

 

get the right app, and it's better then the real thing. smarttruckroute isn't the right app. and it requires internet.
