The price of SSD drives have went down dramatically in the past few years. They are not expensive. They are more than worth the price IMO.

How I wish we could run xp pro 64 black edition.. too bad nothing today supports it.

 

That dude is a moron... CL? Seriously? Go to the Craigslist website. It's just a simple layout, no embeded scripts. Facebook is legit but watch for the external links and use adblock to block annoying ads.

 

There are a few programs that ive been using for several years on my pc and my laptops. For antivirus, its Avast! Ive been using it for several years and it just plain works. No antivirus will prevent all viruses, but having an antivirus program is best. I also use malware bytes, thats for those instances when I have malware, or spyware on my laptop that my antivirus didnt catch. I highly recommend a solid state drive in place of a standard platter spinning hard drive. they dont get nearly as hot, are more stable, and can be moved around without issue. they are more pricey in the long run, but they are coming down. Ive been building and working on computers for people for going on 10 years now. Ive seen some really bad situations with laptops and pcs that people got themselves into. One thing I know for you, youtube, and the internet are your friends when it comes to diagnosing issues. Absolutely NO reason to pay someone $40 to run a diagnostic check on a laptop. There are far too many decent programs out there for free that can do the same. Most of which are used by the same individuals who you pay to run the check.


As to what pattyj mentioned about her's getting hot, it is very true. If you keep the vents from getting air, the video card gets hottest, then the cpu, then the hard drive. Those three things get too hot, you can kiss your lovely laptop good by. Invest in a decent laptop cooler, and for the love of god, keep your laptops off your bedding when they are on.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion to whatever matter of it.
Unfortunately pattyj experience is not something we can accredit anymore. Things happen to change so often and so fast that what we knew worked 10 years ago is not the same today. Doctors, pilots, lawyers, and computer peeps have to constantly update themselves, some of us try to hang on and keep up as best as we can with the changes and new software/hardware that pops all over every day.

Nodda facebook is legit? I dont think so. It is one of the easiest ways to put in jeopardy your computer and your personal info along with your safety.

The best way to steer clear is to have a closed group of friends, keep switching your password monthly and monitor your PRIVACY SETTINGS often.

 

Let me rephrase, Facebook is legit regarding viruses and malware. Just keep away from unknown external links.

And any technician that has 20 years should know better than to tell someone that bs..
