Driver gets popped for DUI while transporting an overweight & oversize load

I once saw a DOT officer climb out of the cab of a truck at Virginia scale house with to 12 packs of beer and a cooler..

 

.04 or higher is DUI. If you blow below .04 but above .00 DOT will put you OOS. Not 100% certain but I believe this is somewhat accurate.

 

What I find annoying about the law is that everywhere I go I see a whole bunch of different microbreweries all over the country. However, I can't pick up any of their product because of the laws. Sad that personal responsibility gets thrown out the window and that we can't be trusted to transport a few 6 packs of beer back home because some morons decide to booze it up in their truck. Just a thought considering I'm a big craft beer fan.

Any detectable alcohol is OOS.

 

That's gotta be a typo. 0.40 would kill you. You likely meant 0.04.

I have a question. Been a mechanic a few years. New company wants me to get CDL. If I get it and il driving off work in my personal car is my max legal limit only .04?

 

Yes, once you have a CDL you are considered a more responsible citizen...

 

Not the case. .04% BAC applies when you are operating or in the custody of a C.V. When you drive your personal vehicle (as long as it too does not require a CDL to operate) then your state's statutory limits for non-commercial vehicles applies. In most if not all states now that's .08% BAC.
