1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Trucking also happens to be the ONLY job I am aware of (other than oil field) that pays you for holidays. But, never gives you a day off for that holiday. Although the offices run a skeleton crew that rotates holidays throughout the year.

They "pay" you while you are out on the road. If you have 3 days on the books when you get home..that's all you take. You can't have a 4th..just because of a holiday. NOT even Christmas at some companies. You get home 3 days early...tough. You're leaving out Christmas morning.

    Unless your union.

AMEN! An overabundance of equipment does not necessarily equate to "driver shortage"...however, in talking with the many fleet managers I've dealt with at the large companies, "dependable" is a word that comes up often. Seems there is an "abundance" of "procrastinators" so in effect there is a shortage...of good, dependable" drivers!:biggrin_25517:

Thanks for the simplified, to the point truth.

Remembering back on the shortage talk I felt the industry was trying to make a case for allowing Mexican drivers into our country, in an effort to drive down already low pay of American drivers. Any one out there got any ideas on this? Thanks.

When it is said that there is a shortage of workers, drivers, I always think they r trying to creat a reason to allow more Mexican drivers into the country to to time drive down wages. Anyone that has been driving for a while see this possibility?

That day is coming. I see that already.

Swift is leading the way. Training Mexicans in Lerado, TX.

Of course they have to get them a green card. But, since there is a shortage...not a problem.

Is this why Swift has had the recent legal problems some r talking about. Swift is hiring Mexicans and are they manipulating documents to get them on trucks?

I SAY ANYONE, ANY COMPANY who is trying to manipulate the system in order to get MEXICANS jobs in AMERICA is a TRATIOR to the citizens of the United States of America.
I have to ask, "how many Mexicans legal or illegal are driving trucks?" Any body got a guess.

    Thanks for the information.

Partially true but not the reason, experienced teams are in high demand but experienced solo's dollars and cents a new driver less money to pay and lock into contract and treated in a manner an experienced driver probabaly would not accept......................:biggrin_2558:
