Its not the driving.. its the cut (2-3 extra hours) into my home time. Getting back and done... being on personal time, and still an hour away from home.
But that is what I am trying to understand. Is this a non- issue as the close company may still have me on home time at some spot far from the house.
Stevens or FFE : DFW area choices?

Not trying to sound like a kill-joy or anything, but if you are all worried about less hometime even while you are home due to a long commute you might want to rethink this thing altogether. You could be in for a rude awakening went you REALLY won't be getting home.
-
No I get it very well... hence the reasons for wanting to maximize that time.
If its going to be 10 hours to 3 days every 2-6 weeks, a few extra hours seems like a nice thing to pick up.
If I wasn't past the age requirement I would be considering go back into the Navy.
Its mostly a non-issue now, as I think I have found another more interesting company.
I think the close to home FFE has been replaced with Millis vs Stevens, both about an hour or so away from house.mje Thanks this. -
I'm pretty much in this knowing I have to put in my time (looking like two years) to get qualification: Experienced CDL.
If after two years I have not learned to enjoy what I am doing with that company, there are local jobs all over DFW.
My father in law and his brother run team for a company that runs mail cross country.
My brother in law runs Texas/Oklahoma for Autozone.
They have plenty of insight, but are just not current on 'training companies'
The 'truck stop talk' is totally unreliable, as my father in law was totally under the impression that CR England was the best company around here to get trained by. -
Perhaps you may still be able to get back into the United States Navy. If the recruiting office does not take you on, perhaps you could fire off some correspondence to the Department of Defense and see if they will give you an age waiver. If not, it would have been worth the effort to have at least tried.
Either way, good luck to you!
God bless you and your entire family! -
Thanks.
I'm just six months beyond what a waiver would provide. -
FYI. I'm currently enrolled in the FFE Academy here in Forth Worth and the School has ten 2014 freightliners cascadias... The trucks run great. FFE has a 82% retention rate after 6 months and a 54% rentention rate after 1 year. FFE/KLLM Is doing something right as a training company.
MM3Deg Thanks this. -
Will FFE/KLLM also hire and further train new CDL students who have graduated from a truck driving school?
-
Yes, but if u live out of the state of Texas you must possess a class A CDL. You may be required to take 7 day refresher course if it's been a while.. You should contact a recruiter. The training program is six weeks and you are paid 255 for orientation and 400.00/ week while on the road with a trainer. -
Yes, go with Millis Transfer.
FFE or Raider Express would be good as a 2nd choice backup plan.
