I'd be checking local outfits around the Springs if I were you. You're going to have trouble with employment for some time. Rock haulers are a good place to start...

If your on probation than your case is most likely still open pending you not screwing up prior to the end of probation. That will be an issue for many. Other's may not care. What the actual felony charge is will be a determining factor for many. If its violent, drug, or theft related expect an uphill battle.
Thanks for your service, but being a vet isn't a free pass.hal380 Thanks this. -
hey Guys, im a newbie..as the name indicates. since i haven't made the required 7 posts, i cant start a thread to ask about this so i'll ask it here..and apologize if im out of line. im a student, about to get my CDL in just over 2 weeks. I also have a felony in my background. i was told that the four big ticket no-no's are drugs, alcohol, sex or theft crimes. without giving too many details, i will say i AM in one of those four categorys. my question is this: how much..if any..weight will having had my record expunged carry in the hiring process? i know that legally i DON'T have to check the "have you ever been convicted of a felony" box but im sure when someone does a background check on me, it will pop up. at which time i would provide proof of expungement, thus i didn't lie on my application. any insight or thoughts..good or bad..are greatly appreciated

Well that's nothing to worry bout I know drivers that as been in prison and still got a job driving over the road when I started I was on probation w/ a class A felony and I've been out here now for 13 years it's what you do with you're time and how to forget bout the pass just have faith and enjoy some companies will or may look but other's will give you a chance if this is what you really want go for it do what you're PO officer ask and everything else will fall into place.

No matter what happens, the robbery charge is a big flag. You can't get your 'records' expunged, it is on there for life, even if a judge says you are are clean. It isn't because it gets taken off your record but because there is a paper trail that can be easily found when a proper and thorough background check is done and believe me a few companies do them.

Just go in and be honest. Answer all their questions without adding more than they ask. Don't try to hid a thing and they will tell you what you have to do. If you show them you are honest and clean maybe they will give just a little more than normal.

It's going to carry a lot of weight... and before you spend a pile of money on CDL school, you need to go check some local companies out and see if there's a snowball's chance in hell if you're even hireable. I guarantee that any of the major OTR companies won't touch you for years.

thanks IRON: i knew going in that the big company's wouldn't touch me. i talked to a recruiter at swift ahead of time who told me just that..cant touch you. although the guy was pretty cool and i respected his honesty.i know finding work will be tough but im confident that there's work out there for me. and the guy or company that hires me WONT regret it...thats all i need is a chance. my position on it is this: unlike guys with no background, I DONT have tons of options. that being said, when someone does finally take a chance on me, i HAVE TO BE better then the next guy they bring in because i cant just leave when it gets tough. whoever it is, WONT be sorry
