    Illinois scale masters will tell you to not set your brakes. It will actually add weight.

    If you are under gross and fine on your drives and trailer then don't worry about the steer axle. Only a few states are 12000, WI is 13000, some states go by what the tires are rated for. Look on your steer tires there should be a weight rating on there. Most of the time when you get a high steer axle weight is because you have full fuel tanks.
