Anybody know where I can find a listing of the low weight roads in MS?

If you have a Rand Mcnally truckers atlas, there is a section in the front that list restricted highways in each state.

States are changing bridge and road restrictions every year and a new atlas will be using 2 year old data [that could be found]. An atlas can be "helpful" in some cases but generally are useless today with a lot of new inspections and [de-rates] being done monthly, along with rapidly changing federal/state minimum specifications.

All it tells is restricted roads. Some roads trucks are allowed as long as they are under a certain weight.

funny how people always say the atlas. which only lists state highways and roads.

like Texan says. towns and counties change their roads often.

take the town in west virginia. in 90 days they will be shutting off THROUGH trucks. unless your making a local delivery. you'll soon have to go around.

if the atlas had every road in the country listed. we'd be packing bibles instead of an atlas.

    Amen.

Ran in and out of Toledo, OR last week. Highway 101 in the 2014 Atlas shows you can access it coming in from the south, but my dispatch information and the customer both advised that was now closed to big rigs.

When in doubt call the customer, they may have routing information, or call the state information line.

If you are running with a trucker specific GPS then make sure you have the latest update, it might have the information about load restricted roads in the database and route you correctly. However, always use the GPS with a pound of salt.

That's a great point. Atlas is a great tool, but doesn't tell you everything.

I used to run a lot of small towns in the northeast. Couldn't count the number of times I came across a low bridge or a road I wasn't legal to be on due to weight, or some other reason. I always checked my atlas before a trip, but still found a lot that weren't listed.

Other than a sign near the junction of a road there is no tell all accurate tool. Most signs just designate weight not clearance issues several miles down the road. I realize the signs do no good for trip planning but that's why we must be versatile.

Yeah, I love it when I am tooling down a supposedly legal road, and come up on a weight restricted section or bridge. No place to turn around. What I do is put all my body weight on my legs (get up off the seat, in other words), cross my fingers, and hammer down.
