They have all these policies and rules, 11, 14, 70 hour rule,
Slide the tandems, chock the wheels?
So a driver can respond with no driving at night , no answering phone calls during lunch hours,
Mandatory glass of fresh milk with a chocolate cookie just before bedtime.
Suggest something else, I'm running out of revenge ideas...

 

Guess I'm a "half driver" too, I friggen can't stand backing at night/dark. My first delivery or two every day is in the dark and I can't stand it.

 

Tell us the company Emerald. Inquiring minds need to know! Also if its a company over half the board hates they need time to bash you for it.

I'm hoping that my comments were not taken as a "bashing", but rather as food for thought. It is possible to be safe while driving and backing at night. Just as with driving in inclement conditions you need to drive within your ability to see. Night driving is a must in many situations, and I hope that whatever company you go with you will consider having the flexibility to take on more night driving. I've found that I can get a lot more miles under my belt by driving at night. I can blast through metro areas at the speed limit instead of getting stuck in traffic. Getting into some docks in urban areas is much easier at night if you don't have to contend with pull ups into traffic or backing off a street.

If you really don't want to drive at night, find a job that's a dedicated account.
It'll be more boring but you'll do the same thing all the time.

 

I'd recommend Covenant. Most human, understandable company I've worked for. Way better than US Xpress or Swift (by the way, never go to US Xpress if you don't want to run at night. They are very bad about it.) Covenant Transport is good-At least that's the way they used to be. I don't think they changed. They are out of Chattanooga. Some DP might be bad apples, but you can change him or her. Good luck to you.

 

Not being rude OP but you need to suck it up when it comes to night driving. It's part of truck driving. During the winter months whether you start at night when it's dark or early in the morning when it's dark you are going to be driving in the dark sometimes. People don't like driving in the snow but if you live in the northern states well tough **** your going to have to deal with it. I'm really not trying to be mean here but I do think it's sometimes better to be forced to do something your not great at or that you are uncomfortable with to get better at and not be stressed out doing. Being thrown to the wolves is not necessarily a bad thing in the long run OP.
