But you can tell if they are flat by kicking. I'll gauge my tires once a week but just doing a regular pre trip I'll kick them (with steel toe boots). I don't have time to gauge 18 tires twice per day. All I need to know is that they aren't flat, if they have a slow leak ill catch it at the end/start of the week when I gauge them.

I do a lot of drop and hooks. Often the trailer tires are mismatched. After discovering the ring and vibration of each tire seemed the same to me, then gauged them to find +/- 20 lbs variance I decided to forget about relying so heavily on the tone of the tires.

I cannot in good conscience put a truck into gear until I know for ###### sure that the 5th wheel hasn't been pulled. Sometimes I'll check it twice just in case I forgot to check it the first time, and forgot that I had forgotten. I'll also check the tires, belts, brakes and fluids every day.
Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
I've gotten lazy, our trucks are all very new and I pull out of the company yard almost daily.
But our yard has very poor lighting, so there's not much to see at 3 am.
I've gotten into the admittedly bad habit of doing my walk around at the customer's after the sun comes up.
So the few times a month I actually stay at a truck stop my PTI is pretty half assed.
