tanker jobs

    i apreciate all the info :)
    as for tsa , it seems my service record is above tsa s pay grade , i end up having to do the background check twice cause they cant get it done in the amount of time first time around thus costs me 200 bucks .
    as for my restrictions , i cant do reptious movements above the shoulder , and have wieght resrtictions of no more than 45 pds lifting above shoulder.
    below shoulder i'm good on weight but still no repitious movements over and over over for more than 10 mins . rotater cuff muscle isnt working right in my right shoulder, as for climbing up and down i;m good, just dont have full rotation of my right arm , thus i have to do some things differently or slower or both . hence why i cant do tarps or throw chains any more , seeing how i thru chains same way i did straps and ropes lol
    i was thinking of maybe doing dry bulk tanker work , but know nothing about it .

    ethos is right. You'll make more $$ in chemical tanks. The loads pay more, the accessorials pay better and it's basically easy work. As far as companies, I know Trimac and Qc will train you in tanker with your driving experience. Schneider of course, but from what I hear from their drivers, you won't make as much money there.

    My dad drives pump truck in Post Texas next to Lubbock Texas and does not have HazMat, his friend Mary also drives Vacuum Truck with no HazMat and as far as hoses you should be okay because it is not repetitive pulling and pushing of hoses except for when you have to open hatches and clean your tank but I only have to do that when they wanted a load of freshwater. And, we actually had someone who was supposed to clean tanks for us but when you need it done and no one to do it you have to get it done. I am new to trucking but just letting you know what I have seen so far.

    Just went through the TSA guidelines and nothing is mentioned about military service. IIRC, when I got my HazMat there weren't any questions about military service, and when I applied for TWIC, I remember that there was only one question about military service and didn't even ask what branch, service time, rank, or discharge.

    Basically, they asked you if you served or not. Simple yes/no question.

    About the only thing military related on the no-go list would be treason or sedition. You wouldn't be on this forum if that happened.

    Like I said, it appears they don't bother too much with military records, so I don't understand why you would be subjected to higher scrutiny than anyone else.

    Dry bulk could be problem for your shoulder if you get line clogged. As long as you hauled light weight product like plastic pellets you would be OK. Frac sand, cement, etc gets real heavy in clogged hose. Hundreds of lbs. Frac sand you can normally blow out. But lots of stuff not so quick. Liquid is the way to go. Hoses can get heavy but in short periods. I haul gasoline, diesel, ethanol, etc. Great pay and pretty easy work. Just have to be VERY careful about what you are doing. One of our top guys dumped 7500 gallons of diesel into TA Denton, TX reg unleaded tank last week. News of these cross drops travels fast in house. No one could believe this man would/could make such a mistake. 18,000 gallons to pump out. Replace their reg unleaded and also the load of ULSD. Gets real expensive real quick. Think he is going to get 5 days off and get to keep job due to formerly great attendance and work record. But that is true for all tankers. Same with frac sand. There are many different sizes and you have to make sure that sand foreman/boss tells you exactly where he wants it. Put it in the wrong bin on a king and they will be screaming. Of course I saw many times the last stage of frac they just pumped the messed up sand into the ground to be forgotten.

    If you refuse to deal with TSA for your HazMat, you pretty much eliminate yourself from probably 80% of the tanker jobs in the oilfield, no matter how much driving experience you have. TWIC and HazMat, along with other things such as H2S are required by most companies out here. The ads advertising for help say it over and over again.

    Why, may I ask, do you insist that they look into your military records? It's not going to make you any more likely to get a TWIC card or HazMat.

    They don't care if you are a war hero, but they do care if you are a terrorist or a convicted drug dealer.​



    thx for the info guys it has helped lot , as for my hazmat , i havent had it in 10 yrs , i guess things have changed since then with tsa and such .

    The dry bulk hoses I had to deal with seemed 10 times heavier that liquid hoses.

    Look for van or reefer companies with 100% no-touch freight. The hardest work with those is unlocking the fifth wheel & opening/closing the trailer doors.

    Some LTL companies that pull doubles have no-touch freight, but possibly have some problems swapping out trailers. I haven't done that type of trucking, so maybe someone on here can set me straight on that.
