I don't know why you wouldn't run down US95 into Vegas then I15 down. I used to run all those roads with triples and at night you're lucky to anyone. But if I was going on into SLC I would check to see if you can make US93. Then take the short cut from US93 on 318 to US6 to Ely then back on US93 to I80. When we did the loop from Las Vegas to Reno to Salt Lake City then back to Las Vegas we always ran that way because we had a drop in Ely. The only caution you have is if it snows because the hills right before you get into Ely can be tough.

Okay you guys. You owe me one.
I just called the grocery store in Alamo. She says the traffic is no longer stop and go. It is moving. Word is out and most of the 4 wheelers are taking the detour through the valley of fire state park. Pretty much nothing but truck traffic on the 93 now. She also said if you go through in the middle of the night it will be even better. Was not sure about the turn onto 319 at pancea or however you spell it. But if it is moving in Alamo it should be a good go at pancea also.
Small town folks are nice. -
93 to 318 is panaca. and that's where the congestion is. making that turn. night time best time to travel.
I doubt alamo knows anything. backup doesn't reach that far.
I heard cars had a detour to use though. so that'll ease some. but who knows. news stories all over the Internet and everyone of them is different.Big Don Thanks this. -
I'm going to have to run it again early Sunday. I'll let you guys know how it is. It's either that, or run 35 to 40, which is going to add 280 miles to my drive. I'm going to try and roll through about 5am.
i talked to the gas station in Panaca, and also the one in Caliente. Both said it's moving much better than it was earlier in the week. -
That would be the best route over the new bridge (replacement of Hoover Dam crossing)...fun ride actually! The congestion through Boulder City can be a small pain sometimes!48Packard Thanks this.

I went up 89, but I was going from Nogales to SLC. Barely a blip. I was afraid the other way would be a cluster. Crete routed me that way for some unknown reason, but I ignored it. Sounds like a good thing I did....
otherhalftw Thanks this. -
Once you get to Tonopah and crossing over US 6, you are getting a "LOW" elevation across the valleys of maybe 5000', and passes take you above 6 and 7k!

And there's going to be a reduced speed limit as well.

i talked to a dot guy when i was broke down in caliente and he told me 30 miles is gone. but the news today said only 2 miles. W T H!!!!!
